Possible MAF sensor problem

Possible MAF sensor problem
Hey- I have an 85 IROC with a TPI 305 and lately at red lights sometimes when I stop the rpms drop and the car stalls. So then I noticed if I let off the brake a little before it stalls- the rpms go up and I can get it not to stall, but then the check engine light comes on and then when I try to go- it doesn't want to go unless I get on it a little. So then I pulled over, turn it off- fire it right back up and it is fine- no light- no bogging out. Also it has been stalling when I park it and shift to park- it just stalls. So I got the check engine light to come on and put a scanner on it and it said I needed a MAF sensor. But then drove it home fine. Not sure if it is the sensor or something else? And then if I buy a new one- what do you think of the adjustable one's? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Stu

Re: Possible MAF sensor problem
Mafs are kinda pricy, but they do go bad occasionally. First, check the MAF relays and especially the wiring for the maf relays and sensor.
I once had a MAF connector with a pin that would slide up into the connector when plugged-in causing a bad connection. When it was unplugged, the pin would slide back in position and look normal. Took me a while to find that gremlin.

Re: Possible MAF sensor problem
Hey- everyone thanks for the help. I found a guy on here that says hes selling a Granetilli mass air flow sensor for $200 that he pd 300 for and used for 3 days and then went to a carb.- He hasn't replied to my PM, but hopefully he will soon. Anyway- has anyone tried this sensor and what do they think? Thanks in advance. Stu

I'm not sure a Granetelli MAF will work with your '85. You might want to make sure the one for sale is a 1985 only (digital) type, and not an '86-89 type (analog).
