After a lot of research on my car with a steady SES light and rough idle I think my MAF sensor is broken. I have done all the diagnosis tests it is possible to do on the wiring harness and measuring is correct when it comes to the volts..
my main problem is a steady SES light..No trouble codes, but when I disconnect the MAF sensor the light goes off...So that means something with this sensor..And since the wiring harness is correct i was thinking of looking after a new one.
I have seen a lot of different MAF sensors and a lot of EXPENSIVE ones.
from 200$ to 800$....
Do you guys have any suggestions of what kind of sensor I should buy?
My engine is a stock 305TPI engine now but I am going to upgrade a little bit very soon. But first I want my TPI system to work perfectly..
if you are dead set on buying a new one go to tpiparts and get one. do mess w/ the adjustable ones, waste of money. your going to pay throught the nose for a new one so be aware of that. dont waste your money on a cheap autozone or advanced auto one either.

I only know of three the original Bosch, Granatelli and a type know as a thick film transistor (TFT) which use to be made by a company called Wells. A company called BWD now manufactures these thick film transistor types. There may indeed be other types.
The Bosch type is know to have the least problems but may not flow as much air as the other two. The TFT type is known to set off the SES light. I do not know too much about the Granatelli type.
Do not remove the screens on the Bosch type especially on the air filter side as this will reduce the life of the sensor and these sensors are not cheap.
About a year ago my Bosch type failed prematurely because I remove the screens and I got a BWD TFT type. I had some SES light problems. A few months ago the TFT one failed and my local auto parts store replaced it for free with a Bosch type. Then a few weeks ago the Bosch one failed and the auto parts store gave me another free replacement one this time a BWD TFT type.
While I like using TPI Parts, Summit Racing, Hawks, etc with electronic parts that can fail I really compare the price at a local auto parts store. It would have been very difficult to keep sending these MAF’s back to these stores in the USA.
Ok...I have been looking for a while on those remanufactured MAF sensors from different brands at Rockauto.
Are those sensors bad or what do you guys think?
Because I find the remanufactured one's for half of the price and sometimes under the halfprice of the NEW ones...
Another thing...If I choose that I have TPI system from year 88 the sensors are very EXPENSIVE...now I am talking about new maf sensors.
If I choose a MAF sensor for a 87 TPI camaro the sensor's have a different part number and are a lot cheaper. What is the difference on the years?
Isn't all the MAF sensor's from 85-89 on V8 (305 and 350) engines the same, on the TPI systems???..They looks like the same though..

Just a word about Advance Auto's MAF sensor, I have had one for years with no problems. There is no way i would pay $350-$500 for a MAF when you can get one for $130. All my other sensors and relays have come from Advance, with no problems either, Why pay more when you don't need too?

Are you certian you don't have a vacuum leak? Those symptoms sound awful familier to me.
