89 Iroc Alternator/power steering mount bracket
Im looking for the bracket the alternator/power steering pump are connected to. The bolt hole the alternator bolts to has broken off. Anybody know where I could find this entire mount bracket?

Re: 89 Iroc Alternator/power steering mount bracket
Hi,
I have found mine on rockauto for $60ish.
Just a note that the alternator become a little noise prior to letting go. Did not bothered to check that out:-(
The crack in the bracket looks like typical fatigue. Now I am removing it and noticed the first bolt from the top left-as u look at it from the front of the car- (right under the piece which broke off) a trox head which secures the bracket to the head was completely loose and broken off too (fatigue).
As crazy as it sounds I tend to believe that the bolt broke off first... Will ask a specialist. Now if this is true, check that bolt for tightness. If loose remove (should be about 1" long, mine was broken right in half) and put a new one in place
A chance these parts are still available to buy new...
UPDATE: I have asked a specialist. He said indeed the bolt worked itself loose then broke from fatigue. This in turn put more load on the tab which bolts onto the alternator and caused it to fracture. After the tab let go the whole alternator case split in half (alternator was hanging by the wires).
Don't let this happen to you;-)
Check this trox head bolt for tighteness every season. If found lose replace (even if not broken, chances are it's cracked allready). No need to apply loctite
I just spent $8,60 for a new one @ the stealership. It's aait, they don't see my face often around there;-)
Now to get the broken part of the head... another story:-(
UPDATE2: I found another broken stud (1st stud from the bottom, nxt to flywheel). I will replace all 5 (3 trox headed bolts and 2 studs) with new Gr10 ones.
will check the A/C bracket next and most likely replace everything
Was wondering if this is pertinent to a TPI car? (I do not have the two braces (#5 in the pic)
