90 L98 stock heads- how much lift can they take?

I searched and searched so i have to ask how much lift can stock L98 Iron heads take? thinking about ZZ4 that has .474 I .510 E lift
I know stock vortecs have issues above .450- .460 but what about L98s?

When I searched for this same topic the general consensus was the same result you found for the vortec’s. I ended up buying LS6 beehives and Comp 787 retainers, took everything to the machine shop, told them my cam specs (GM 94666492 w/1.6 rr’s) and walked away. They did their magic and told me I was good.

I cant believe that's all they'd take I'm not going through all that for a cam on this engine. I have a ZZ4 and a ramjet laying around I know ramjet will work - was hopping ZZ4 would hunt

The numbers I kept seeing were .470 - .480 max. IIRC it wasn’t a coil bind issue but a matter of the retainer hitting the guide boss. I had mine looked over and refreshed so it was a good time to upgrade anyway.

If you hold off until this weekend, I can get you some pretty close numbers. I have the stock L98's in the shop.

I think one issue as you start getting closer to .500 lift is a chance you might pull the studs?

Re: 90 L98 stock heads- how much lift can they take?

Just last year I had a cam put in my lb9 different yes but it took .480/.480. Just like my shop told me I recommend going new everything else also guides, stems, seals, studs, etc.
