Flow numbers for aftermarket TPI intakes?
Hey guys, I need flow numbers for aftermarket intake bases. Some people say the Accel base flows the best. I will need to use the S/D Vortec TPI base, (only if I dont sell my fastburns to help buy the new Dart Pro-1 heads). What about the Edelbrock base and the TPIS "big mouth" base? Any info would be appreciated!!

I'm having an impossible time finding this info myself. Everybody here says that all the aftermarket bases are pretty much the same, and everybody on corvetteforum swears up and down that the accel is substantially better than the TPIS and edelbrock. Nobody in either place seems to be able to offer much in the way of proof unfortunately. I've got the runner diameter for the accel, as well as stock, but not for the edelbrock or the SDPC intake. I've got flow numbers for the accel base in the tech setion of iroc.fbody.com, along with flow numbers for stock stuff, but nothing for edelbrock or SDPC.

Badass!! Thanks Black 91 Z-28! Any flow data for SLP siamese runners? I have a dumb question. Is the Accel base for LTR TPI setups the same base they sell with the Super-ram? Oh yea, my 91 Z-28 is black also, nice car!!

The aftermarket Accell, Edelbrock and TPIS bases are all very similar in design and will flow approximatelly the same. I have an Edelbrock base and a SDPC vortec base and the Edelbrock base looks like it will flow more air then the SDPC base. The runners in the Edelbrock base are larger in diameter then the SDPC base and there is more material around the runners in the base to allow for porting. The SDPC base also has some airflow restrictions where the fuel injectors protrude into the air stream. Overall I believe the aftermarket bases designed for the conventional SBC heads will support more airflow and power then the SDPC base designed for the vortec heads.

I don't suppose you could mic the two bases to get an accurate runner diameter, could you? As usual, there's conflicting information all over the place. Some say the SDPC base is the same as the edelbrock, and others say it's the same diameter as stock. Some say the edelbrock is is as big as the Accel, others don't. You... yes YOU, can put the rumors to bed.

So far, it seems like the Accel base flows the most! Does anyone know the size of the intake ports on the Accel base (the ones that mate the heads) ? Has anyone run into problems with the Accel base? How does the Accel base compare to the TPIS "big mouth" as far as flow numbers go?

From what I saw, if you look closely, the LTR setup that flowed better than a super-ram was an Extrude Honed LTR setup. So everyone is in agreement that the ACCEL base with SLP runners is the best choice as far as flow goes?

Fully ported plenum, Extrude honed and ported SLP runners, Extrude honed and ported Accel base = EQAULS = Superram w/ stock base (no porting)
****AND**** FULLY PORTED, extrude honed super ram and extrude honed ACCEL base EQUALS wait no LTR setup can flow this much

Look guys, I am an adult, as I hope most of you are. I'm just trying to figure out what LTR combination flows the best and I'm asking help with that before I fork out more dough! I want to stay with the LTR setup. I have fastburn heads, but before I spend alot of money on head work, I need to find the best LTR intake combo. The reason I'm in this situation now, is because I've heard negative things about the SDPC Vortec TPI base. If the Accel base flows the most ("out of the box"), then I will sell my heads and choose a non-vortec style head. All of this is in my quest that you "can" put 400+ ponies to the back wheels with a LTR TPI setup naturally aspirated. I know that I could do this very easily with a mini-ram or a super-ram, but I'm sticking with the LTR setup, therefor I need the highest flowing base and runners. Has anyone used TPIS runners on their motors? Again, any help is appreciated!!

I've got TPIS large tube runners on my engine. They are the exact same as the AS&M large tube runners. I dont know what they flow, however... Flow info is really hard to find, as not many people have had them flowed, and the companies want to keep that info secret, of course.
The vortec base comes setup to match the Vortec heads and stock runners. If you port both the heads and intake, and use aftermarket runners, they will flow really well. My dad ported his, but I dont have pictures of it yet...

Thanks for the response Kevin. However I'm still stuck in deciding on a base! Right now if I keep the fast-burns, I'll have to stick with the SD Vortec base, even though the general concenses is that it doesnt flow all that well and it's a nightmare to port it due to the injector boss'. If the Accel base flows the best "out of box" then I will choose a different head like the new Dart pro-1's (318cfm out of the box) or maybe a pair of AFR 195's. I need to have the intake flowing 260cfm or so to the heads (bare minimum). My ported fast-burns flow 282cfm @ .550 lift. Please keep more info coming as I will be purchasing a base very soon!!

I have seen the SLP and Edlebrock runners side by side . I can say the SLP is visually smaller diameter. So I'd say the Edlebrock flow more ( unported)

all the dimensions for after market bases,and runners are listed in the FAQ section of the homepage. The Accel,Edelbrock,TPIS bases all have the exact same dimensions....
