LT4 HOT cam kit....I want some info from the experienced!

Me and my friend Iroc n Roll want to throw some kind of cam into his motor. He has a stock '87 TPI 350 motor in his IROC. What we're now looking into is throwing a hot cam kit in the motor. The kit comes with 1.6 rockers, the cam, and proper valve springs. There won't be too much of a problem running this cam with stock heads otherwise (the car will have a custom PROM burned)? Another related question, should we change the lifters while we're at it? Where do we find new inexpenive lifters? We'd also like a nice heavy duty timing chain for roller cam setups, but Summit doesn't show anything really for roller cam motors. Any suggestions on that also? One last question, will we be able to use the stock valve covers with the 1.6 rockers? Thanks for your time.

I bought a couple new factory roller/true roller Dynagear chains off o ebay for like $80 brand new. From a place called fastvalves/ D&E Performance in Port Saint Lucie, FL. Good deal. I would seriously consider head and intake work if you're going to go that radical, I'm not sure if the stock L98 heads will take that cam. I'll be using that cam in my 350 TPI too...haven't installed the motor yet though so I can't speak of personal experience.

If you're going to tear the motor half apart to do it just make sure it's worth your while.

The heads will be done another time when I get the cash and intake work is already done We really need to know if the stock valve covers and heads can take this though. If anyone knows it would be much appreciated.

Yeah, I'm curious too. I'm going to use iron L98 heads too with the hotcam. They will be ported alot though. Can I use the stock rocker arms and valve covers?(I will put 1:6's on at a later date) Will I have to machine the heads for the extra lift? Thanks

Remember dhirocz - I need a timing set for a roller motor...you don't have a roller motor so timing sets are available everywhere, not so for a '87 up motor (well we don't wanna do autozone stuff).

Ok heres the dilema. First off we need to know if the springs and rockers in the kit will fit my head without modification. If so the choice is do I go with the kit or go ala carte. Get a used hot cam for around 110, inexpensive rockers around 200 and spings to handle it all around 120 for a total of roughly 430, or just get the kit and have everything new with GMPP rockers for 500 (not to mention a couple little extras like retainers and shims)? I really need to know if the parts in this kit will fit my heads. Bone stock L98.

OOPS! I guess I forgot to mention, my 350 was a '98 Vortec out a a Sierra. My 383 was out of a '96 Tahoe, I love roller motors. The flat-tappet roller chains are easier to find and cost less...the original '86 305 motor is long gone, as is the tranny and rearend.

I'm serious, the chains I have are Dynagear sets for '87+ motors with factory roller cams, that's why I bought 2 when I only needed one!
