Tremec 3550. Is it worth getting

I have the opportunity to buy a tremec 3550 for $700 w/ 5000 miles. I was originally going to buy a t56 or Zf 6 speed, but based on the price of the tremec I am unsure. Would you guys recommend buying this or sticking with my original plan?

I recommend that you search or ask at www.corral.net. Many people over there have 3550's. I like the (3550) TKO in the Cobra in my sig.

I've got the TKO ... It's great. You get so many more chicks with it than the T-5, you wouldn't even believe, you gotta buy the pro 5.0 though.

More chicks with a different transmission? Huh?

EDIT: Oh, and this is a little off topic, but would it be possible to use a 3550 or a TKO made for mustangs, on a third gen? I know that the transmission mounting angle is different, but could this be redrilled? Or is a matter of getting the right bellhousing?

I agree with NTCrist what does a different transmission have to do with chicks

NT
Forte's carry's Tremec's that are made to mount in our cars w/ a min of mods.

What kind of mods would the Tremec require?

The tremec for the mustang has a different spline pattern on the input shaft. So no it will not work.

You are correct about the mustang trans being different.
The tremec that forte's sells for third gens has the correct GM spline patterns. The tremec I am looking at buying is for a third gen not a mustang.

I think this is sort of funny, even if the rest of y'all don't.

What modification to the car (in this case, an 85 IROC) would be required to use the GM Tremec?

I do not remember all that is needed. There is a list on Forte's site. You will need an adaptor for you speedo either electronic or cable driven, backup light switch, torque arm bracket, crossmember bracket kit.
