700r4 compatability,cars,trucks,SUVs

we all know that the 700r4 has many aplication in GM vehicles, what about trucks?

the reason I ask is because my friend has a '93 fullsize 4x4 blazer, the tranny is going and I'd like to know if my 700r4 formerly part of my Trans Am could be of any use to him.

do trucks have the same 700r4 that a car has with a different tailshaft to match the 4x4 case, torq conv.,line pressures to accomodate the needs of a truck.....or is there absolutly nothing in common with a thirdgen 700r4 and the auto tranny between the 5.7 TBI engine and 4WD gears in this truck?

please don't respond if you want to bash SUVs or complain because this is essentially non-thirdgen. this is a tech related post regarding transmissions and all informative responses are welcome.

From my limited understanding, everything is the same except for the output shaft. It's made to mate up with a transfer case on a 4x4, as where the car has one made to mate with a yoke that goes straight to the driveshaft. Most of the internals should be identical, year for year of course.

The main difference is the output shaft. There were basicly 5 different style output shafts. There was the corvette, the short spline, the long spline, the 4WD and the Syclone. The short/long spline shafts are the same length as each other, its just that one had longer splines. The 4WD and the Syclone shafts were also the same length as each other, but considerably shorter than the others due to the transfer case, but the Sy shaft has two grooves cut into it in front of the splines.

Other than that, there are small differences, like in the valvebody and spacerplate.

so,does this mean that I could put the two transmissions side by side and swap the tailshaft, torq converter, servo, valve body,ect...from the 4x4 tranny onto the good tranny, right in my driveway? I forgot to mention, the f-bod 700r4 is a lock up type, would a '93 truck have the same funtion?

it should work good because my trans was rebuilt once and all of it's weak points were updated,so it should hold up in a truck just fine.

My 93 Blazer has a electric shift trans in it. I believe the 4x4s also have a little stronger case, as one of my buddies has been looking for one. If you're going into the trans deep enough to change the tail shaft, might as well just rebuild it.

then it seems it's not going to happen,.........'84 T/A 700r4 for sale!!!!!

stronger case, electronic shifting,4WD...sounds expensive. how much would a basic rebuild cost? does anyone build these up for "off road" use? most likely, could anyone direct me to a good 4x4 GM trucks board?
