4th gen rearend in a 3rd gen, is it possible?

4th gen rearend in a 3rd gen, is it possible?

What size rearend do the 4th gen SS Camaros and WS-6 Trans-Ams come with? Will it fit in a thirdgen and if it needs mods, how much work,? I am just do the research before I do my engine swap.

yes its possible, it will stick out about 2 inches though, there is a tech article on how to do it

Yes, I , as well as quite a few other people have 4th gen rear axle assemblies in their 3rd gens. The wheels will stick out 1.5 inches farther with a 4th gen rear versus the 3rd gen rear if you keep 3rd gen offset wheels. 4th gen offset wheels would be the correct backspacing to get you back to where it should be if you go to a 4th gen rear axle in a 3rd gen. There have been numerous threads about this swap (hint: do a search for more info) and there is a tech article on it, as mentioned above.

i have a 4th gen rear in my Z28, it was simple, everything bolts up as normal

Thanks guys I appreciate the help. What is the biggest size rearend they put in the 4th gens? Im trying to find an alternative to spending $2000 on a 9" rearend.

They're all the same "size", which is also the same "size" as the ones in 3rd gens except as noted above... what is it you really want to know about them?

Drew, I have a 3.23 ratio 4th gen rear, if you are interested. It has the discs and calipers also. It is out of a 96 Firebird I believe.
