700R4 front seal replacement...

Hey everyone!

I'd like to replace the front seal on my trans before I put the car back on the road again. Since I currently have the car jacked up about 2ft high, I thought this would be a perfect time to drop the trans and replace the front and rear seals on it. The front one shows evidence of a leak by the small amount of oil caked up inside the bellhousing area. It was like this when I bought it. However, the car has been sitting for awhile so the front seal is probably shot by now.

The only thing I'm worried about is removing the oil-pump from the transmission. I think Dana from Probuilt recommended replacing the pump to case O-ring and the front BUSHING while in there to replace the front shaft seal. I believe there's also some bolt O-rings that need to be replace also. I think these go around the bolts that mount the oil pump to the tranny case.

Can you rent the oil-pump removal tool from the major auto parts stores like Kragen, Autozone and Pep-Boys? Or, can you just use a large gear puller with a C-clamp around the fingers of the puller? I did a search and someone mentioned this setup for a "Ghetto" solution to pull the front pump without using the proper GM tool.

How do I R&R the front oil-pump bushing as recommended by Dana? I do have a (Harbor Freight) shop press at home. Would this work to remove the old bushing?

to remove the bushing i removed just like i did the front seal. the bushing is actually two pieces and will break apart into two when bent far enough.

mistikkal_69,

Is this bushing press-fitted inside the oil pump housing around the front shaft? So, once I remove the pump from the tranny housing, I just break the old bushing apart then press the new one in. Correct? Is that the way you did yours? Just wondering.

Also, what did you use to remove the oil pump with? A large gear puller or something?

Thanks!
