tranny swap / shift linkage problems
I just swapped my transmission out and got the new one in place and bolted up (passenger side top bolt is a pain!) but now I'm not able to shift the gears properly. Haynes says to set both the shifter in the car and the tranny shift linkage to manual and setup the pin holding the cable so that it's loose and ur done. Well mine is not going all the way to first, and not going all the way to park. Manually moving the lever on the transmission works (with the cable disconnted), but I just can't get the cable setup properly.
Things to keep in mind: this tranny came out of an 89 firebird formula and it was run with a B&M Megashifter. It's got a semi-manual valvebody from what I'm told and should work fine. I also checked under the shifter boot and it just looks like the cable is not long enough anymore, although I'm using same transmission and I transferred the shift linkage bracket off my tranny to this one. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

What shifter are you using? It needs to be an overdrive shifter, the three speed shifters won't work. Also, the shift cable needs to be for an overdrive trans. What are you swaping from? Let me know what you have and I'll try to help.

The Megashifter comers with it's own cable bracket and swivel that bolts to the shaft on the tranny. If it still has all that on it, it may not work with your factory shifter. You may need to take the hardware off your old tranny to get it to work correctly.

well I had converted everything over to work with the stock shifter. but I found the problem after ripping up the console... the old shifter cable was sorta busted so the whole cable was moving instead of just the internal cable. so I took the cable from the megashifter and drilled a hole through the stock shifter and mounted it to the stock shifter. then I hooked up the line on the tranny underneath and (it needed a little adjustment, but) it works fine.
had to adjust the TV cable a few times (still revs too high to shift into 2nd I think, maybe I'm not pushing the cable back far enough?) and went for a spin, now the lower line at the radiator is leaking about 1 drop every 4 seconds or so at idle. I know the thing is stripped and i don't wanna mess with it cause i know it'll just get worse (stripped at the radiator).. anyone ever tried JB weld or anything like that on it to try to seal that kind of a problem? are those connections on a radiator replacable? any help would be appreciated.. thanks
edit: since the threads aren't messed up on my tranny line, I suppose the easiest solution would be to install a separate transmission cooler, right?
