did you try putting the trans in the 1 or 2 selector. you may have broken the forward sprag.

Yes, I tried in every gear and different rpm ranges and when it is in gear it doesn't have that whining sound as if it is slipping it just sounds like it is in neutral in all gears but reverse.

How hard is a reaction carrier to change and how much do they cost?

it depends on how much experience you have in trans work. it's not a difficult change if you have a little bit of experience with transmissions. the reaction carrier goes all the way to the bottom of the trans. the price depends on what you put back in there. i preferr the 4L65E 5 pinion billet steel version which is expensive. the stock standard replacement model can be had for less than 100 bucks.

They sure aren't cheap. After the standard 4 pinion broke it was worth upgrading i felt. here's the two side by side.

And if you get that deep, don't go installing the factory reaction shell back in there. Look for a TCI unit instead. They're only about forty bucks.

The trans was already rebuilt 1 1/2 ago with upgraded parts and corvette servo. Think everything else should be good and the torgue converter and front pump were replace less than a year ago when the pump went out and the trans shop said everything else looked good. So in order for me to change this reaction gear do I need any real specialty tools? Thanks for all the help and info.

nah not really, just snap ring pliars and a clean place to work. dirt is your enemy. just ask if you need any help getting it a part. its not TOO bad, just pay close attention to where all the thrust washers go as well as the thrust bearings.

order *the beast* sun shell while you are at it. 40 bucks.
