I use whatever is cheap. My first 10 second run had wal-mart atf in the pan.

it shifts real hard using b&m, will this be lost switching amsoil, redline, or any other synthetic?

More than likely yes. Unless they have changed it, the B&M fluid is not compatable with lock up converters.
I personally have had odd, unexplained failures in transmissions that used synthetic. Therefore, I won't use them.

You have a lock up converter or a non lock up converter. Only the guy who sold you the converter can answer that. 700r4's all come with lock up style converters. Most continue to use the lock up style. Some choose to install a non lock up converter. The pump must be modified to do this(non lock up) properly.

They must have changed it. Last time I read the label on the bottle it said not to use it for lock up converters. Guys have been using it for years though.

In my origional post about the B&M, I started the sentence with "unless they changed it"

Cheap Wal Mart ATF in my built TH350 hasn't been changed after the 200 miles like I was supposed to; fluid is still clean and trans shifts fine. I bought Castrol ATF this time just to not be so cheap.

Re: those with high performance rebuilt 700-r4, what do you run in it?

Since I used to be good friends for years with Jimmy Gilante who ran then owned Darrell Youngs Racing transmissions for years- He always told me not to put anythiung into it other than regular DexronIII tranny fluid- No sythetics, no additive crap. My traninies have always worked great with just off the counter stuff.

Its not about what you run, but more mainly about the temp it runs. If it is too hot them make sure you have enough volume and a good cooler.

Re: those with high performance rebuilt 700-r4, what do you run in it?

I run the old type "F" and have no problems whatsoever running it in GM transmissions. I like the type "F" because it has extra friction modifier that makes the clutches hit a little harder and stick better.

It doesn't affect my lock up, either.

Re: those with high performance rebuilt 700-r4, what do you run in it?

most trans shops will suggest trick-flo ATF for your high-performance auto trans. if you want to be cheap, you can just run the normal stuff, but your bands and clutches will wear out faster and your converter may not lock up well because conventional oil cannot handle the amount of heat put out. and PLEASE change your oil when its due.

Re: those with high performance rebuilt 700-r4, what do you run in it?

I am about to change the oil in my 700 and was looking for Dex3 but on my oilstick it says "use only Dexron II"......the fun thing is that i have some 4 imperial gallons of Dex II in the garage could i use it or not
I thought 700 box was only to be fed with Dex3 !?
By the way i have the original lock up converter.

thx Mats
