Car: 89 Firebird T/A
Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
Tranny won't shift out of 1st!!
Hey Guys,
Well, last Saturday I'm driving on the service road and I feel a pop from the rear and I've lost power.. Hitting the gas doesn't give me any pick up.. I figured, I'd broken the pinion gear or the teeth weren't meshing anymore.
So I brought my car into the shop to get it fixed. Since the differential housing was damaged and got punctured by part of the pinion gear, the housing had to be replaced. It's been replaced now but now my car won't shift out of 1st gear. Is there something I need to check before I go out replacing the tranny? I'm thinking the accumulator might be stuck open.. I can't say for sure.. It does shift into reverse and 1st gear.. I think the planetary gears might have died but I can't say for sure without opening it up and looking.. Anyone have any idea what to check into and what the problem might be? Thanks.

Ck the Governer gear.....might be worn off ...it nylon ..plastic...easy to replace too

Oh, I also forgot to mention that I have a B&M shift improver kit in it. It's set to firm shifts.
Where might I find the governer gear? I assume it's in the tranny somewhere? I'll have access to a lift since it's at the shop right now.. If anyone could offer up some help, I'd appreciate it.. Thanks!
