new g-tech = T-5 problems(sycros ?)

My IROC finally hit about 400 miles on the new engine and my g-tech arrived today. I figured I had better get one to tune the new 350/carbed car with. I figured I would hit a 0-60 run to see how it worked. I hooked decent for the first "launch" in this car (eased into it pretty much) ran it up to around 5300-5500 rpm (still pulling) and hit second pretty hard and ended up with a g-tech 5.5 sec. I came up to the stop sign and couldn't get the car into 1st or 2nd, finally got it, but had to push hard. I figured what the hell, stock T-5 with 82k, so I ran it again - spun too much and second has hard to get in, hit 6.0 sec. Tranny now pretty hard to get into gears and is really "stiff" when in each gear - but I detect no slipping. You guys think this is a syncronizer problem ? Overall, I feel a little better performance wise as I am still out of tune, having fuel pressure problems and running the '87 suspension. The car just didn't feel that strong down low, but then again my other car has quite a bit of low torque so it is hard to compare since the torque curve is so high in the carbed car. Oh well, it's about time to put it up for the winter and work on the suspension and tranny.

i've never had a t5 apart, but i'd guess a bent shift linkage. i know it's all internal, but no idea how it works.

Had a similar problem with my tranny in Jan of this yr. Wouldnt go into second gear, the rest were fine tho. Ended up being both the syncros and the sliders (what ever those are) had the transmisson rebuilt. No more problem. I don't recommend doing too many speed shifts in it tho. I do baby it considerably now, and I road race it but gently on the shifting of gears.

if it goes into all the gears hard, its probably a clutch prob, either with the throw out mechanism or the clutch disc itself. I dont think its possible to bend a shift linkage, it is stronger than the case. THe shift forks are cast aluminum, youd probably break one of those before bending it. If its an internal tranny prob, you will most likely hear some new noises

are there usually noises when the syncros go bad ?? If the syncros are the problem, would it be a problem throughout the entire range or more individually gear located. All the gears are harder to put in initially - like press a little hard and it "pops" in. I've had a few grinds going into 3rd. I just put a new slave cylinder in it because I couldn't get it into reverse and all gears would grind when trying to shift over 3-4k rpm.(they were really hard to push in as well). The slave cylinder took care of it, could shift at high rpm and get reverse, still a "little" harder to get into each gear. Also, now, when the car is in nuetral, there is no "play" in the shifter, it just seems solid, pulling to the left more than normal. I have a new centerforce clutch and throwout bearing with b&m shifter so since everything is new to me I'm not used to it, or how it should feel yet.
