Need to do this cheap
Need to do this cheap
What is the cheapest way to get into 3.73 posi? I have 3.08 open right now. What cars would I look for to grab a whole rear? Disc breaks would be a bonus but not a must.
Thanks

I believe some of the early one's with 4 cylinders came with 3.73 gears, but I don't know if its strong enough for a V-8. Look at some GTA's for 3.73 with disk as a thought though.

if your scavenging junkyards,an '84 Trans Am comes stock with 3.73 aft cogs. I know because I have one
Early L69 5 speed cars, earlier 6 cylinder 5 speed cars, and 4 cyl cars came with 3.73's. I got mine out of a 4 cyl car, found a used posi from a 4th gen for free, swapped the gears over to the new posi carrier, and used the 28 spline axles from the rear that came with my car. 3.73 posi, total cost: $45.

85-88 Monte SS had 3.73 7.625" gears
83 Hurst olds had 3.73 7.5" gears
random S10 trucks & Astro Vans had some gears, not sure which of them came w/ 3.73's though
And the early L69 cars. My T5 in my Monte is from an 84 Tran Am and it was already setup for 3.73's (lucky me)
