trans question?

Car is a 1988 camaro with a 305tpi/700r4. So it started with the trans shifting kinda hard from 1-2. Then it lost 3-4. It would go it second and when it was about to shift into third it was like it hit neutral. So We put another used trans out of an 1989 camaro 305tpi. Took it for a test drive and it did the same thing. Only would shift from 1-2. Any ideas on what it could be? I know its possible to have two bad trans, but is there anything else that would cause this? Any help would be great! Thanks!

Re: trans question?

We also used the same torque converter. I was just told that could be the problem. Something about it not locking up? Does that sound like it could be the problem?

Re: trans question?

the converter's lockup feature isn't a factor. I've ruined a half dozen 700R-4s, each in a different way, never intentional, and never had this particular issue
I'd ask about your TV cable adjustment, but then I'd wonder how the issue developed in the first place.

Re: trans question?

Thanks for the reply! We adjusted the TV cable so I would assume thats ok. This is my buddys car so I can't tell you exactly how hes been driving, but he said the first time it happened it was during ordinary driving. Not sure if thats true, but thats what he said.
