V6 T-5 behind 88 Trans Am
Hello
I want to put a Borg warner T-5 in mij Trans Am, But here in Holland finding a V8 unit is almost impossible so it is going to be a V6 unit.
My Question : is the V6 unit 82-92 WC with the 14 spline input shaft weaker than the V6 unit 93-95 with the 26 spline input shaft.
My next question: i have read that the 93-95 input shaft is longer (how much?) than de 82-92 , if that were true i could make it work with a adapterplate and at the same time compensate for the Ford bolt pattern on the transmission case.
Greetings from Holland
Ludo

the V6 t5's input shaft are weaker due too the smaller shaft and less splines. as far as the 93-95's, ive got no clue

The V6 transmissions usually have a 4.03, 3.76 or 3.50 first gear, which are weaker than the V8 transmissions with the 2.95 first gear. The input shafts also different. My brother put a V6 transmission on a V8 bellhousing and had to cut the end of the input shaft and bearing retainer to make it fit. He had to use a clutch disc from an Astro van to mate the input shaft to the flywheel. All I can tell you is give it a try, but be ready to make modifications and search for parts to make it work. Then don't be too hard on it when you get it working or you will break it.

The transmission that my brother used was from an S10 truck and the bellhousing was from a full size truck with a hydraulic clutch. One of them might have been the problem.
