i have a 1986 trans am ws6 swapped rears with 373s in them. the car accually seems slower since the swap. so i did some research i see people putting a spring on the trans cable. my question is is their a way to trick the vss or adjusting the cable to where it would work normal again without that spring.
governer? do you mean the detent cable that runs from the trans to the throttle body on TPI?

thats what i was talkin about. like can i just adjust the cable how your sopposed to then make it click a few times more. or modify the bracket. but would that hurt the trans.
did the same thing in my tpi monte carlo...i didn't change the gov. i asked a buddy at a trans shop and he said to try this kit he had. puts a spring in front of the connector on the detent cable...NIGHT and DAY difference.

There are two ways to make the part throttle shifts later. One is to go with the Sonnax TV cable correction setup, the other is to take out the governor and remove the light weight tension spring. You must leave in the heavy weight tension spring in the governor and remove the light weight tension spring only.

IIRC the detent cable does effect line pressure and can cause a soft shifting trans. It was about 6-7 years ago that I dealt with a performance automatic in my 84Z so it's hard to recall. Especially since I have pretty much only had manual trans since then.
