700r4 shifting problems

ive got a 93 trans am with a 700r4. i rebuilt it about a year and a half ago. its been doing great with no problems.

but one day while down shifting from 2nd to 1st at only like 15 mph and it made a weird noise and slipped like it was in neutral.

it will not shift while in OD, but if i put it in 3rd (drive) with will shift fine from 1st-2nd-3rd then i can put it in OD and it will shift into 4th.

only problem it has is it doesnt want to shift thru the lower gears when put in OD.

i figured it was just a stuck valve, but i just pulled the valvebody and none of the valves are stuck??

it also has a transgo stage 2 shift kit

need help figureing this out!!
thanks

Re: 700r4 shifting problems

fourth is applied band, forward clutches, and 3-4 clutches. all other gears except reverse all share the forward sprag which is a one way roller clutch until it is supposed to drop off in fourth.
with the noise it made and the shifting problem you describe it sounds like it's deeper than a valvebody.

Re: 700r4 shifting problems

but wouldnt that sprag still be okay since it will still shift thru the gears normally in drive (3rd)?

Re: 700r4 shifting problems

ohhh nvm, your right. when its in 3rd the overrun cluch is apllied which overrides the forward sprag enabling the gears to work

ahhh piss, gatta drop the trans =/
