whats your combo? posi? limited slip? gears?

I'm getting ready to buy a Eaton Full Posi w/ 3.73 gears.
I was wondering what some of the other ppl are using.

What's your combo? How do you drive? Street, Track, daily driver?

holly s*** man! How much was that rear end? uhh... I am hearing some things about the 7.5 10bolt stock rear end. guess I am looking to get some tips so I don't break the dam thing.

Any advice? Can the stock 10 bolts handle 350-400 lbs/torq? Is the LS1 rear a better choice?

Re: whats your combo? posi? limited slip? gears?

iv been into street racing / drag racing from back in 1982 till today
i took about 7 years off to do some other hobbys.. (fullauto beltfeds)

2 of the things i picked up along time ago. is. a car will only have a Good rep. if it's not falling apart.. 1.always use Good parts.2.always talk to the Guys who are going fast..and Keep going fast..3...see 1. & 2.

can the 7.5 10 bolt hold up to track beating..for a Short time yes.
most of the time you can tell when it's about to go **** up. before
turning into a blender at 100mph (my last one did) no fun!

this is a photo of my car.. after sitting for 7 years.. forgive the Dust.
100% bolt in with your Brakes.panrod/drive line U joints...Everything.

$2300 Bucks!! alot?.... yes But it's good to 1000 Hp so they tell me.

it's got all the ricky race stuff...even it's specl # plate from carri.
can swap gears in i need to takes 45 min by my self.

Also Note:
NO Funky TQ Arm.. it's all subframe liftbars(laderbar type)real crossmeber
and rollbar tie in...that was another $2800.. But thats alll in the past.. all ya have to do now is drop in the eng ya want and stand on it!!

Re: whats your combo? posi? limited slip? gears?

9" Moser, 31 spline axles, nodular iron center section with Detroit Tru-Trac posi, 3.70:1 gears and Daytona spicer ui joint. 90% sreet use, not a DD...

I believe this month's Car Craft Mag has tips on how o build up a 7.5 10 bolt....for some they do well - if built properly.

I'm starting to see that I may not have thought this all the way through... I have a bone stock LS2/T56... I was going to do the heads and headers, maybe I should show my rear end a bit more attn first. I was thinking about a Spohn TQ arm... This isn't a track car, I am building it for daily and heavy street use. any advice?

TQ Arms are fine for the strip..just get a aftermarket one.
with better Hook up points.. (if you need one) i did my car when it was brand new.
that was over 15 years ago..

I dumped mine. Cuss I wanted to make sure all the Hit from the slicks was into the Frame and rearend gets plated! the liftbars go all the way the the back of the drivers seat under the car..give or take 1 or 2 inch.

Well, not everyone is running a Procharged "Lingenfelter" 427 on 10 pounds of boost with a 150 hit of nitrous either. I bet you have broke one - or two.

I'm sure you know better than I, it's the rear suspension setup that will give you traction - not the rearend.... If that were the case, I wouldn't be spinning like crazy with the 9" rear I have in mine now. I need to dail in my suspension and get better tires. I'm not bashing your racing experience...if you've been drag racing since '82, you have a lot more track experience than me.

I just mentioned to the OP that there was a buildup article for the 10 bolts in a magazine. That's all.

At the time, the OP didn't even mention what kind of power level his car had, or whether it'll ever see the strip. Now that we know that it's basically a stockish LS2 and will most likely put a bit less than 400 to the rear wheels, and it's a street driven car, I would think for now, the ten bolt rear with the trans mounted torque arm should hold fine...with street tires since he won't be shocking it with massive power on slicks.

yea, just street stuff. I looked at that article, lots of good stuff! thanx for that. I think I will address some of the issues with my rear end. Took the cover off, the gears look grinned to hell.

I'm looking @ richmond or motive 3.73 gears, is there a better brand?

Re: whats your combo? posi? limited slip? gears?

While I agree a nine inch is the way to go, I have not bought one yet. I run the stock 10 bolt housing w/ an auburn limited slip w 3:73 gears. Moser axles and a Jegs aluminum diff. girdle w/carrier stops. My suspension mods include J&E LCAS w/ polysherical bushings, and poly bushings on everything else form the tranny back. J&E LCAs helped alot on the traction end. I am pushing close to 400hp at the rear wheels. My tires are MT Drag Radials 245/55/16's. I get good traction out of the hole usually, no hop or excessive spin if I dial it on just right! I had 4;10's but broke them, I wouldn't go back to 4;10s on a 7.5"... I plan on a 9-inch in the future...

I have 10K I my current set-up, and hit the track 5-6 times a year. I figure at this point I am probably on borrowed time w/ this setup?????

Re: whats your combo? posi? limited slip? gears?

Confuzed1: no prob.. I under stand.

the inercooled procharged 427sbc with 150Hp hit of NOS is the new Eng.
it's not even done yet.

i did all the parts mashing with a 11.1 383 super ram.
rear end parts went **** up with just eng.. i only got into the NOS
as i hit 3rd gear....parts always seem to let go in 1st and 2nd.

this 383 was a Lingenfelter stage 5 (475 HP /490 FPT)

the car was only and is only driven on the weekends.. thats why it still looks new...

just a weekend driven street car

As far as Richmond and Moser gears, aren't the Mosers more quiet from what has been posted on here?

I could never tell.. it's the Guys who set them Up/Install them.
or ill say how it's done that can Make them Do all that.. if. it's done right

you could not tell the Diff.. but as you get into lower gears 4.11/4.56 they do tend to not be so Quiet.

the lowest i have ever ran was a set of 9" 4.86 in my first hot rod...Good Pull
