I realize that the 6-speed autos are damn expensive, but I'd love to install one in my Formula. I'd hate to go the full LSx route to do it, but maybe that is more cost effective. If anybody has done one, please share your reviews. Thanks!

Nobody, huh? Too expensive? Install ridiculously hard? Too new?

Maybe I'll try it just to be different... I don't really care for the "paddle-shifters", but I guess the factory stick may be inadequate.

Kind of all of the above. There have only been a handful of people who have done this on LS1tech.com or pro-touring.com but with LSX engines. Look at those websites/forums.

looks awesome to me.
and it has one great feature that i find fascinating... it can use an electric motor in place of a torque converter.
can you imagine having a variable stall speed?
you could even base the stall speed on rpm and throttle position.
it also allows you to not use a starter, as the motor can be started by the electric motor/torque converter.

it also keeps trans pressure without the engine running, which means that it supports engine start-stop technology. ie, turning the engine off when the car is stopped and restarting it when the gas pedal is pushed. you get an instant takeoff because the pressure is maintained

i want this trans and its supposedly the exact same size as the current 6 speeds, which are only slightly bigger than a 4L60E.

Thanks for the replies! I guess that I could go the LSx/A6 route... I don't think I'd have the time or skills to attempt that on my own, though... I'll keep saving until I break something and decide then. Thanks again for the input!

Yah. That's the kit I've seen that got me thinking. However, a LS2/A6 pull-out would probably cost the same as that kit...

You can do that if you can deal with a 3 speed trans, 4 with a gearvendor over drive attached.

You get a switchpitch trans built. Folks rebuild em for performance still and near any app or engine. Its old school stuff but at the flip of a switch on the dash you can chose 1300 rpm or 3500 rpm stall.

Can you do that with a trans such as a th350, or only with the old (Buick?) transmissions?
I think a lock-up converter might be a better, more modern alternative though.

The use of old is wrong the design is no way out dated, if you are getting one its gonna be better then new and race ready for massive ammount of torque[Buick], and the bolt pattern doesn't matter, if you got cash for one, you can flip for the adapter plate to bolt it to anything. A trans is a trans.

a lock up is nothing like it.

It makes a 5-800HP car ubar street friendly but be able to do wheel standing launches at the track.

Hehehe was a jab though at those who gave me flack for saying a sports car didn't need 2 OD gear, AKA the T56.

5 gears like that n 1 OD is nice, sports cars only need 1 granny gear.
