Engine mounts questions? "high hp"

Hi

Well my rubber engine mount broke again........

- Is there any "rubber" one that is "the best" ?
- can you put in xtra rubber under the mount to support it?
- Will a Poly mount hold better?
- How much higher will the engine sit will Poly mounts?

What have you other "high hp" guys done to prevent this? strapping?

Re: Engine mounts questions? "high hp"

My car hasnt really been on the road all that long but I have poly engine mounts and tranny mount on my car. Had them on the 400whp 383 for 1200 or so miles before adding the 150 shot and running that on and off for another 400 miles before tear down. Kept the same mounts on my 401 twin turbo and about 400-500 miles on the setup so far. Alot of racing time/WOT time. Doesnt seem to have issues, but it does torque alittle bit.

I really believe a high hp setup will benefit from a midplate but I didnt want to do that. High hp will twist blocks. Chain straps may help. I'm going to keep running this setup til something happens. If something fails, then I'll work towards a midplate/frontplate setup or try straps.

Aren't there also solid motor mounts? I know nothing about it, but I thought I read about solid mounts some where.

Re: Engine mounts questions? "high hp"

Dont want solid ones on a street car..........

Maybe should try poly mounts and/or try to fit some kind of reaction rod........

Re: Engine mounts questions? "high hp"

Is the motor also torquing the subframe alot? Any chassis stiffening work done around the front? That may or may not help the issue

Could do the old trick of drilling a 3/8" hole in the mount and install a bolt and lock nut to keep the two halves of the mount together. Use a lock nut, then you won't have to overtighten the hardware and take all the cushion out of the mount....

Will not work with the new "clamp shelf" style would it?
