hello
so i was reading your post on TCC kit options,, now i have a 350 tpi 700r4. 86 700r4 ecm controled taking out the tpi,ECM ...i am confused here i don't know jack about tranys what kit do i use to do the convertion so i don't have to open the trans pan.
OK my brother has two hot rods with 700r4 in them ,what yr of the trans don't know, he turned me on to www.BOWTIES.COM witch shows how a to wire up the tcc with only wireing the tcc from the switch on the lfet side of the trans to your break switch. so there is no need for the ecm,,,, he has had no problems with wireing it this way.... i have a 64 elko with the stock tpi an 700r4 in it,,i am going back old shcool carbed. i will miss the 25mpg ,,, now he tells me he gets 20 hwy 15 city....and runs at 1700-1900 rpms at 60-70mph
can you give me parts numbers to order part for this swap....PLEASe keep in mind i only 250.00 350.00 max for the tav, throttle cable and tav mounting bracket.an any outher parts ,,,it is confuseing ,,,,,,Now i am ok with parts from ZONED AUTO i will need for the swap...

I was wondering the same thing how to run a manual switch to lockup if you have no ECM anymore????

well know one has posted this as of yet,,,, i am still waiting like you.... i found another site that shows how.. but i would like some info from this site an the GURU'S from this site...... i know there is a way with out droping the trans pan..

Full manual control ( don't forget to shut it off when you come to a stop !! )

Cut the tranny plug from a junkyard harness

Run a wire from terminal "D" of the plug to ground.

Run a wire from 12 volts to a switch - then from teh switch to Terminal "A" iof the plug.

Drive car - hit switch - lock-up engaged.

When I convert CC engines to non-CC set-ups I usually try to locate factory Vacuum TCC parts from export ThirdGens. Plug and play. There are also many kits available that will allow you to install TCC lock-up on non CC set-ups without removing the pan.

i have been looking forever to figure out how to wire a switch for lock/unlock tcc. Thanks.

I have one question. At what times or rpms or speeds do I turn the switch on or off??? I dont wanna ruin my tranny and I dont mind flipping the switch for a while until I can buy the vacuum kit. Thank you.

Fip it on as you drive onto a highway on-ramp,.... and Flip it off when you drive onto a highway off-ramp. Can't go wrong !! IIRC most ECM controled factory TCC locks up when the car is @ or around 45 MPH in 3rd or 4th gear. The Vacuum set-up locks the TCC based on engine intake vacuum.

Ok so dumb question what if the PO had both installed........which one is better as far a functionality so I can't take the other off?????

I'm assuming that the vacuum one works when you go WOT??

I can't tell you what one is "better"..... It sounds like you have a vacuum set-up and a manual switch ?? ( Maybe one worked and one didn't - that's why both are still installed ? )

At one time I wired a light bulb to the Factory Vacuum operated TCC wire and ground. Then I did a little driving to see when the vacuum soleniod was sending 12 volts to the tranny. You can read the results of those test here:
