strange 12 bolt swap

I'm getting ready to purchase a strange or moser 12 bolt rear end. I've been searching to see if anyone has created a thread with the details of their swap but haven't had any luck. Can anyone chime in and 1. tell me what ended up going into their 12 bolt swap beyond just the rear end or 2. steer me toward the correct buildup post.

Re: strange 12 bolt swap

if you order it the proper backing plates for your current brakes, or whatever brakes you plan to use, there shoudl ne nothing else major. its a bolt in replacement.

your 3rd gen uses 3R u joints, so thats the yoke you need to order with it unless you have something else that you ahve changed

the sway bar mounts will need to be changed, the 12bolt will have 3" tubes, stock is like 2.625, 3" muffler clamps work, or many aftermarket companies make fancy ones that will work too.

My opinion, and its shared by a lot of people, if you want a 12bolt, but the one from strange. Mosers is lacking in a few departments. Largest issues is that it uses 4 small bolts to hold the torque arm on instead of the 2 large ones like the factory used. The 4 small bolts are prone to failure.

Re: strange 12 bolt swap

Sweet thats good to know. I was leaning towards the strange. I just was curious how much of a bolt on project this would actually be. I've been reading on spohn's site that the strange 12 bolt has the sway bar relocation brackets built in which will make that a little easier. Thanks for the help.

Re: strange 12 bolt swap

You will need to order the aluminum cover too as the housing has no fill port.

Re: strange 12 bolt swap

Really? Which one or both don't have fill ports? That seems like a major goofup
