28 spline axle shaft, pull from alternative vehicles?

I'm going to be rebuilding my rear end in my 86 camaro soon and I was thinking about trying to save some money on the axle shafts. When rebuilding it, I wanted to upgrade to 28 spline stuff instead of 26 splines. Instead of spending 200+ dollars on a new set, was considering just getting some from a local pull a part where they are only 20 dollars each. However, I don't know what all cars I can look for to have the proper length 28 spline axles? I know the 90 to 92 camaro and firebirds obviously, but are there any other GM vehicles in this time period that used the same length 28 spline axles for a GM 7.5" 10 bolt rear end?

The gears and posi unit I will most likely be ordering new. Unless I happen upon a set of 3.73 gears that look in really good condition while out there.

Thanks!

No alternatives that I am aware of.

Given that any you find will already be 20 yrs old and have who knows how many miles on them (meaning the inner race of their bearings is already wore out), and they're SO CHEEEEEEP in the overall scheme of things ANYWAY, there's no sense in dinking around with used ones.

Used axles are probably going to be worn where the bearings run on them. Don't use worn axles. They can also be bent, expecially if the car was in an accident. New axles are the best way to go. I know that money is tight for most people and you got to do what you got to do. The F body cars that you listed are the only ones that I know of that will work. Get the disc brakes while you are at it.

Yeah I was thinking about going ahead and doing the disc brake conversion while doing it. Thats why I posted a brake upgrades thread in the brake section hehe. But not sure if I can afford another 520 dollars for a brake conversion + whatever the proportioning valve costs, on top of 800 dollars for the rear end components. Plus miscellaneous stuff like fluids and paint (no reason not to clean up and repaint the rear end while it's out from underneath the car hehe).

And then really... if I did the brake conversion I'd probably want to go ahead and replace the brake lines as well, which just means more $$ lol

The only 28 spline axles that will fit into your diff will only come from a 90-92 third gen. No other 28 spline 10 bolt axle is the proper length. Many are close but not close enough to swap over.

Aftermarket axles are far superior to OEM axles anyway.
