700r4 2-3 shift

at WOT 1-2 shift is at 5500 2-3 shift wont happen unless you let off throttle. just put new tv cable adjusted to gm specs, new governor. tried playing around with weights and springs on governor but it only changes 1-2 shift. it did this before I put new parts on.
its an 88 with 350 tpi mild cam other minor bolt on stuff, 3.42 rear gear. 255/45/17 rear tire.

Re: 700r4 2-3 shift

i saw something on here once before about how it isnt supposed to shift a WOT to 3rd, something to do with factory standards, might be wrong though

Re: 700r4 2-3 shift

My 700r4 is at the shop right now for a 2-3 problem. The problem was the case itself, I guess there is a check valve that is factory pressed into the casing just for the 2-3 shift. No way to fix it only replace the case. Could anyone confirm that theory?

If the 3-4 clutches are still in good shape, then the adding the Corvette servo and large boost valves should fix this, otherwise the 3-4 clutches are going away.

Re: 700r4 2-3 shift

i will have to look at the original build sheet for the trans if i can find it but im thinking that was done when they did it the first time. i would just go to the guy that built it but he has retired and doesnt have anything to do with trannys anymore. it lasted about 10 years so i wouldn't think it would be anything he did. if the clutchs were going i would think you would feel a slip. thank you for your help!! have a camaro show coming up soon and would really like to not have to take the truck their

Re: 700r4 2-3 shift

The 3-4 clutches (even when they are starting to go) will work fine at most throttle openings, but will not make a 2-3 WOT shift until you let off the throttle.

What you are talking about is a check ball capsule that is pressed into the case. It costs about $10-15 for a new one and can be replaced fairly easily, AFTER the transmission is disassembled. If the shop is talking about this capsule and says they have to swap the entire case I would be a little skeptical.
