best t5 clutches?
What are GOOD performance clutch options for a non wc t5? I've got a 87 z28 with bad 305 that's being replaced with a 357 and know stock clutch is pooped out.
Was looking at Zooms clutches from Autozone ranging from upgraded friction disc/pressure plate to kevlar street/strip with best pressure plate offered

I've had a really good experience with centerforce's dual friction. My TPI is peaking 350 torque to the wheels and the clutch has never given an unexpected slip.

I also have had good results from the CF DF. But for that matter, over my 40-odd years of driving stick shift cars, I've had Ram, Zoom, Hays, McLeod, B-W, and a couple of local rebuilders here and there (that I can remember... probably others besides). And I've got good service out of EVERY SINGLE ONE, IF it was installed right. Likewise, if it was installed wrong, didn't matter what brand it was, it screwed up.
Moral of the story: Pay more attention to creating a PERFECT installation and less to the name on the box.

I have a Zoom HP1675-1A on a w/c T-5 with a Fidanza aluminum flywheel. It does just fine for me.

Re: best t5 clutches?
Well considering I prepped by having new flywheel checked for trueness. Then cleaned the crap out of it with brake clean, also pressure plate. Put everything together by hand then torqued everything to spec making sure not to pinch friction disc.
After all that drove close to 1200 miles being easy on it. First pull I made it slipped.......grr

Re: best t5 clutches?
I've installed several clutches in front of T5's over the past 20 years, and the Centreforce dual friction is a gem. The faster it spins, the harder it clamps.
But the last clutch I installed last fall was just a plain old vanilla Luk stock replacement. I went this route because I'm getting older and I want the T5 to last. And I've learned that you can have fun by driving a car really hard without breaking it.

That said, I've had a Centerforce D/F in my IROC for a hundred years, and it's been flawless. That trans along with the same clutch are moving into my GTA shortly.

I,ve had a cf df in my chevy 4x4 for a decade now and it's never missed a beat. it's been full of mud, water, everything. I wouldn't hesitate to get another one.

I have a Zoom HP1675-1a, and I detest it. I'll be looking at a Spec clutch if my T5 survives.
