700R4 Info Needed Please
So I've never owned one and am in the dark here......
I bought my 88 GTA as a roller, Had the 305 T5 combo in it. I'm installing a built 76 carb 350 and have a long shaft built TH350 to handle the engine, After reading on here I decided a 700R4 would be a better choice for highway driving to car shows.
Can someone tell me what the function of this big switch is ?
I'm pretty sure this ones for downshift and TC lockup right ?
Will this VSS work with all the T5 components that's in the car ?
And lastly...... Since this car is set up for a T5, What would I need or have to do to make it function properly ?
Thanks !

Looks like you have a 4L60E ,
the electronic version of the T700 /4L60 that requires a computer to control it.
For your use you need to find the correct version trans that has TV cable ( looks like a kick down cable ) on the pass side where the plug you show is

You can buy a kit to wire up the lock up to a switch in cab. I have one on my 90 700 r4, lock up is only in 4th gear and when switch is on.

a manual switch on the dash as above
a vac operated switch
or a 4th gear switch inside the trans that will engage the TCC anytime the trans goes into 4th gear without any external input
The convertor releases as soon as trans downshifts or you brake

Thanks, Can you give me more info on this style switch ?
Like where to get one and is this something I can install myself without a total trans tear-down ?

Re: 700R4 Info Needed Please
You swap that to the N/O version and rework the internal wiring depending on what type solenoid you have so the external 12V supply either ;
goes through a 2 terminal 4th gear switch to ground through the solenoid
or through the solenoid to ground through a single terminal switch
Everything you need to know about TCC control here
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...c-control.html
As yours is a stick car you will obviously have to run a new fused supply for the lockup through a brake switch to the correct terminal
on the connector ; drv side of trans
as well as extending the backup light wires from under the car back into the interior to connect to the switch at the base of the shifter which also has the P/N switch.
