700r4 1st gear issue at WOT
okay so I did a motor swap haven't really driven the car in a few years I have a 383 tpi to carb with a 2400stall (only stalls to 1700) lock up torque converter but not hooked up I think I have the kick down adjusted right but when you launch in first gear it only wants to rev around 3-3500rpm then shift in to 2nd I cant get it to rev any higher or stall any higher before the tires brake loose, I cant remember what the car shifted at before I pulled the 305 out trans has a fresh rebuild with maybe 1500Miles max on it would not having the lock up hooked up effect this or???

Your wording is causing me some confusion, but if you mean that the tires break loose at 1700 then the 2400 stall is irrelevant. Unless you don't want them breaking loose. In which case start with sticky 315-width drag radials on the rear.
As for the upshift, start by swapping the governor. Its at the left rear of the trans. Trying a V6 governor is a cheap way to make sure that's the issue.

yes I mean the rears break loose at 1700 sorry about the wording, that's just with a street tire I thought maybe it would stall up alittle better at this point the 1-2 shift is whats keeping me from goin to the track knowing it will kill my over all pass I have never heard of a governor on a trans before, I swore it use to let me run up to redline in first

Re: 700r4 1st gear issue at WOT
With a 700R-4, there's a mechanical part, removable and interchangeable, that governs the WOT upshift RPM. If your stock governor on a base 305 with 2.73:1 axle gears gave 4200 RPM upshifts, then you change to 3.42:1 gears, but don't change the governor, then it would upshift at a lower RPM. The '85-'92 V6 Camaros upshift around 5100 RPM with 3.42:1 gears, and that may be too much RPM for a TPI 383. But it's an easy way to get your answer.
