700r4 trans brake

so its come to my attention that tci recently came out with a new trans brake valve body for the 700r4. want to get some opinions from transmission guys on if this is a bad idea. im not looking for the typical 700r4's are junk I want an honest opinion on why it wouldn't work and details as to what wouldn't work in it. ive got a stout 700 in the car now. been 11.40's with low 1.50's for a 60' and trans has held together for years.

Re: 700r4 trans brake

I can tell you.. you will need some upgrade parts
billet/hard inputshaft and bolt together input drum. $650 ball park as a set(sonnax)
stater support (sonnax) $70 (per TCI)
revearse drum new GM/ac delco ($65) (per TCI)
a bit wider band for the above drum ($30)
billet 10 vain pump ($135) stock pumps will/can break (per TCI)
TCI trans brake $445 (got mine 3 weeks ago)
Note: the above upgrades listed by TCI are the only ones stated with the trans brake install info. so you don't need all the ones I did.

Testing by TCI. shows input and out put shafts holding up. this trans brake uses the governor. so no..no aftermarket output shafts are on the market as of this post..i have looked..was thinking I could use the 4L60 output shaft....no..you must keep governor. so stock output shaft will need to be used..have it cryod ($30)

but I went with a full line up of hard parts (over $3500)
to make sure I did every thing I could do to get it to hold up..i also turned it into a close ratio gearing in the tranny with a 6 pinon planet in the front.. upgraded the rear planet to a 5 pinon also..(better part)
did this to get away from the 1st to 2nd rpm drop..

Re: 700r4 trans brake

I do not install or recommend trans-brakes. They "only" do one thing, and that is "consistency". They are harder on everything else. A good matched torque converter and a very quick throttle response will give you the quickest 60 times. A good suspension and good tires are a must either way.

Re: 700r4 trans brake

We up grade parts to hold up to racing. winning is part of racing, consistency. is part of winning... if we all had the same cars and parts.how fun would that be? the ones that ARE the most consistent. win more.. that's why you play the race game..to win. and have fun doing it.. I my self have foot braked the car to a lot of wins.. have done it for years.
but if it come down to reaction time for a win..well why not..take the win..and not say...if I only had a trans brake..i would have pulled in another win...there is no Fun in doing that.. ask any guy who lost by a 10th. of a sec..or a Hole shot...it's all in fun.

but No..you don't need all the Hi Dollar parts to have fun...
