th700 to th200 ????

th700 to th200 ????

I was thinking of buying the th200 4 r from pro built and was wondering if I can use my lockup stall converter from my th700r4 in front of my th200 4 r. I really need the extra power that the pro built th200 4r will take.

I know this is a long shot but I am just hoping.

Correct me if Im wrong (prolly am) but arent the th200's made for buick engines? Why not go with a built 700 instead? That way you wont need an adapter, new crossmember, etc...

The 200-4R has dual bolt patterns to fit either.

How much HP are we talking here? If it is not over 550 HP then I don't know if the extra cost would be justified. No, the TC from yours is the 30 spline, and the 2004R is a 27 spline. If you want to retain your TC, then stick with the 700R4, or get your TC reworked ($150-$200.00) to take the 27 spline. The 700R4 seems to be the best way so far?

Well pro built I am looking at 500 on the motor and a 150 shot of nitrous on top of that I might bump it up to a 250 shot with a progresive controller to take off some of the stress of the engine and drivetrain. You told me that you had a 2004r that would handle 700 is that correct?

Well, I agree the 200 is a better choice of a transmission than the 700... not only to handle the high power but the gear ratio's are much better. It narrows down the RPM band that you will use and therefore you can build your engine better. With that steeeeeeep 3.06 first gear the 700 has the RPM drops alot and you have to build a bigger powerband, meaning your gonna have to sacrifice some hp to build torque in the lower rpms that the 700 has... granted the 3.06 gear is fun, but it'd be much better to use the 200 with some 3.73's or 4.10's out back.

Here's the gear ratio's........


1 2 3 OD
700R4 3.06 1.63 1.00 .70
200-4R 2.74 1.57 1.00 .67

And here's the gear change drops........

1-2 2-3 3-OD
700R4 1.43 .63 .30
200-4R 1.17 .57 .33

I also like the "slightly" lower OD gear, hehe. But I'm considering choosing the 200 because of the better gearing. Otherwise i'll go with a T-56. Haven't decided yet... ''

Well chrome that is one of the benifits but I am mainly concerned about the power handling ability when making my decision. I am also condidering a th350 swap but I would like to keep the overdrive if possiable.

The lower first gear of the 700R4 does not always help in the quarter mile, the torque converter has more to do with it than anything else. If you have 2.56's in the rear, then I can see a benefit, but with 3.42's or 3.73's, no. If you plan on 650 - 750 horsepower, then you will need some of the updated HD parts to handle this, input drum, input shaft, possible rework of the direct drum, etc. With these parts you can get reliability with the horsepower you are planing on getting.

well I would rather have the 200 for it's gearing and power handleing if I am going to pay the same price for the trannys that is why I ask. I know it isn't going to make a big difference but if I am going to pay the same for both then I want the 200 seing as how everything bolts up the same for the 200 and 700
