Interesting find/ V6 to th350 plate
Mount a 60*V6 to a turbo 350 tranny. A th350 has the same bolt pattern as the 700r4. I would bet money it could be used in a swap for a v6 trans connected to a V8.
I'm not personally interested, but just a link for those who may.

AGood,
Are u sugguesting that you'd simply have to flip the plate over so that the engine and transmissions sides are reversed? just curious as to how this would work if ya think it would.

I think it would work. I just dont know if the bolt hole patterns are countersunk on the plate. I don't see why they would need to be, this is why I think it would work fro anyone interested in a V8 swap. For $70, it would greatly cut down the initial cost of a V6 to V8 swap.
It has hole patterns for both the V8 and the V6. Its a visa versa thing-
V6 trans to V8 motor, or v8 trans to v6 motor- I don't see why not.

Why was this moved from the V6 forum to the FAQ forum? As far as I can recall, putting a TH350 behind a 2.8 or 3.1 was never a frequently asked question. If we're going to do things this way, then every question in every forum will wind up in the FAQ forum!

what about the torque convertor?
V6's have a 27 spline input shaft, and V8's have 30 IIRC.
And i dont think a V8 TQ would fit on a V6 crank...

Doward here...
I think he means the needed TQ convertor might not bolt to the V6 flexplate - are the bolt patterns the same?
Also, keep in mind - the 60º V6 is ALL METRIC. I take it that means the TQ Convertor bolts, too - you might need to drill/tap

They should interchange from what I know. I have had cores (old units) from both my car and truck with 700r4 sitting in my garage at the same time and never thought to check. I have always assumed the 3-bolt Convertor to flexplate pattern is the same. From memory of replacing them several times-( the truck at least 10 times over the years pulling tranny for various reasons) I would bet they are the same pattern.

i know a V8 th350 plate will bolt right up to a 700r4...
i was using a external balance 400 plate made for a TH350 when i put the 400 in the old car..... with a 700r4 behind it.

The V6 700R4's have a 27 spline input shaft, and the V8's have a 30 spline. Therefor a V8 TQ wont fit on a V6 tranny, and vise versa.
But if a V8 TQ will fit on the V6 Flexplate, then everything should work fine.

Myself I just don't see that coming up unless someone tries to cut corners.

i donno.... if i start from a nice solid square base, and try to cut a corner, i end up with 2 more corners....
so i keep cutting and cutting...
and evenually its round...
and round rolls faster.

Just throwing a V8 input shaft in there when i go to get it rebuilt, and then i can use the wide selection of already available V8 TQ's.

lee7, if you use a v8 tq, make sure its not a regular sized one. a 10.5" convertor will not fit in a v6 700r4 housing. i just made that mistake on mine.
i thought mine had a 28 spline input shaft, maybe i'm thinking wrong though, i don't know. and, our v6 convertors/flexplates i think have 8.5" from center to center on the bolt holes (only 3 of them too). the v8 convertor that i had accidently gotten for mine, i think was further from one hole to the next.

i don't know a lot about the manual trannies so, i may very well be wrong and please let me know if i am. but i thought that the t56 was a v8 6 speed, i thought the v6 5 speed is the t5. if i do have this straight, hmm.....a 6 speed behind a 60* v6....hmmm.....
