Has anyone converted MPFI V6 to '82-'85 2.8L carbed ?

Just as the title states... does anyone have any information about converting the '89 2.8L MPFI V6 to a carbed version using '82-'85 2.8L intake, carb, and distributor ?

I'd like to do this if I can't get this EFI to work for me.

Transmission: 700r4....not stock either

i would recommend getting the edlebrock setup for a 4-barrel carb. it'll run so much better than the stock 2 bbl setup. don't know if you wanted this advise, but here it is.

Car: 85 firebird
Engine: Pos 2.8 pulled and replaced with a 350 tpi motor converted to carb.
Transmission: 700r4, vette servo, shift kit, hayden 15"x8" trans cooler.
Edelbrock has a kit with a 2 peice manifold and cam along with a holley 390 cfm carb it supposedly makes 160 hp.

The thing is, that I'd like this car to be a reliable driver... I've already got the '70 Camaro as a toy.
At this point, I'd like to drop as LITTLE money in this thing as possible... and still have it get out of it's own way occasionally. Maybe a carbed 350 transplant would be just what the doctor ordered, who knows... that's for another day.

Thanks for the replies.

Well when i priced the stuff it got up to around 6 or 700 real fast.

For that amount or a little more you could do a v8 swap.

IT'S SO SIMPLE
JUST DO AS I DID IN THIS PIC!
I started with a 1995 3.4 mill & just swapped on the 1985 S-10 FEDERAL 2ESE carb & distributor set up.
ONLY DIFFICULT PART is the fuel pump set up.
YOU MUST dump your tank pump & use a street pressure remote external mounted electric fuel pump with range of 5-7PSI.
I've recently read that Rochesters do NOT like more than 5.5 PSI of fuel pressure.
It's only details that make the package.
My swap package is sanitary, not a hack job.
Seek out the factory stuff, rebuild it & enjoy the challenge.
PS IF IT WAS ME....
I'd make the MPFI cooperate. It can be tamed, promise. Lot cheaper & easier to fix others mistakes than to "start from scratch" for "removing the problem". Honest. My 3.4 swap to 2.8 carb'd is not a dream come true project. Still seeking a few details before it's road worthy!

You can keep your high pressure in tank pump and run a carb, you'll need a mallory adjustable fuel pressure regulator, part number 4309. Cost me $80. bumps the pressure down to 3-12 psi and returns all the extra fuel to the tank.

or use a regular fuel pressure regulator and put a T fitting in the line right before the regulator with a smaller line returning to the tank...same basic thing.

I've haven't been on this board in quite some time, as I've put the '89 RS on hold for a minute.
I WAS able to mount the inline fuel pump (MSD 125# f/p Max) about 8" ahead of the fuel filter (under driver's door/halfway under the car) though.

It'll be a few more days before I get everything (un-FU@%ED) w/ the hackjob that previous owner(s) did w/ cutting the access panel for fuel pump swap-out.

Basically, it'd be ideal to keep the 2.8 MPFI... good on gas, mild performance, 5 spd. (you get the picture)... however, the body on this car is WAY too nice to even THINK about selling or the dreaded "junk yard run".

Anyways, I'd like to see this '89 RS MPFI running (NICELY too) by the end of the week.

I can only hope for a miracle, LOL !

Thanks for the help guys.
