PUMP you UP!

I finally found my leak of water for rad system
This was not a job I was desiring to do but I am glad I have done so.

The old pump brand is a NEW GMB Brand
You can easily see why it had to go was going.
I FINALLY started hearing metallic noises.
UPON OLD GMB BRAND pump removal, it was obvious.
See other pics.

I got the rebuilt pump from local store (Pep Boys) $18
CHECK OUT THE REBUILT QUALITY in the first pic

I used on pump bolts
15mm, 13mm, 10mm, 8mm.

ON MY 1985 Firebird set up, I have multiple belts.
I marked 2 of 3 belts. Even marked one belt to remind me it goes on FIRST!
I'm gonna let the car sit over night without any water fluid in it to let all gaskets cure.
I am using TEFLON SEALANT ON ALL WATER PUMP BOLTS.
After rebuilding plumbing systems in a house (VOTEVOTE FOR JOHN KERRY TODAY!), telfon pipe sealant is my new friend!

ANYONE ELSE PRICE COOLANT COSTS LATELY! Damn stuff has doubled in price!!!

Firt pic is the new rebuilt item.
If ya can notice, it's ALL GM core, impeller, casing. I have no idea of brand of bearing.

I pulled out each bolt, cleaned it at a wire brush on bench grinder.
Applied fresh GM Teflon seal to each bolt.

That is an old timing chain cover, that is no good. Kept just cause and good for mock up of this project.

No I did not pull the timing cover.
Really wanted to, tho
I need slip on the balancer snout sleeve, will have to be done later on.
I never installed a new tensioner. Reused best of several I had while doing the 2.8->3.4 Long Block Swap Boogie.
My chain has about 10,000 miles on it.
You'd do same, too.
Damn engine sounds smooth!
No leaks, so far! Hurrah.
I'll check water level tomorrow AM, hoping the deal is "sealed"!
By using Gas-A-Chinch, the old pump came into my hands so easy! Clean/prepping of surface was near effortless.

Hey Karl, I just found out that the rubber slipped off the balancer on my car, do you think I can make four 5 mile trips until I can fix it? I was on the freeway tonight and I didn't have a problem with it, I just can't get it done until the earliest is tomorrow. Gotta find a place that has the sleeve repair kit.

In all honesty,
I seriously WOULD NOT consider it.
It happened on my Corvette. I saw the problem. Was told I'm driving with an unexploded grenade. Fix it right away.
It's way cheaper to find another ride, now, than to be towed home, anyday!
IF ya balancer is shot, beyond the snout repair sleeve rebuild, obtain a solid replacement.
Rubber ring separating from a balancer is not a good sign at all.

Sure it will seam fine until the bearings wear out. your ***** footing around about chaning a $50 part when your gonna ruing a $500 engine.

Well my friend is going to let me borrow his car to take to pick a part tomorrow afternoon, so it's 5 miles to his place (he lives on campus) and then leave my car there for the day, finish my classes, then head to Pick a part at 12, hopefully find a balancer there (maybe I'll buy 2 or 3). Then when I get back gotta take my car to my place (5 miles) to work on it (he doesn't have a garage or carport where I can work on it).

Now all I gotta do is hope that there are 60° V6s there w/ the balancer still on it (preferably w/ the crank pulley removed)
