Car Overheating

my car is running between 240 and 260* lately. My timing is off right now and i was wondering if that might be part of it. Also i was wondering if anyone has put in a lower temp fan switch to make the fan turn on earlier. Anyone have any input on either of these topics?

I put in a manual switch so I can turn on my fan whenever I want. If you want I'll look at the wiring as I don't remember what I did at the moment and take pictures and whatnot of how to do it.

Sounds like you need an electrical system tune up.
From new chain to new coil.
Why?
Yep timing & cooling is related.
An overstressed engien will run hotter burn more fuel run lousy!
Is it running still original chain?
IF so do consider this as part of your cooling problem
AND by doing this chain work ya run cooler and maybe prolong current engine life a bit more before eventual failure.
When ya time car use the timing light to tell ya if chain is poor/stretched.
IF balancer timing mark is jumpy, chain is bad. IF over 75,000 & still original it's time.
UNLESS ya got bad shrouds or bad coolant fluid. But that temp is hot & also tempting to crack head or pop gaskets.
Fans automatically turn on at 220* & off at 200*

Check coolant lines. It could also be your thermostat.

Just kick your fan on at 160-180 and that will solve your problem solved mine. The stock chip would not kick my cooling fan on until i hit 250.

Yeah I have similar problem. The ECU is not turning the fan on till 260. A manual swtich fixed that problem.

Also just went through hell with a head gasket due to old rad hoses. Caused my car to over heat and blow the pas side head gasket. Torn the engine down to fix it and found that I had a snaped head bolt as well, but that may have been that way for years. You can easily say that it ****ed my weekend over. I have allways had a weird fauling on the number 5 and number 3 plugs. Well guess ware the busted head bolt was... in between # 5 and #3 . Over heating is nothing to play with. Fix it soon!!!

I hate cooling problems, becuase they are so dam hard to track done unless you have an obvious faliur such as a bad water pump.

Thanks for the offer, but I had to get the car running by Monday so I could get to work. So it was a marathon tear down on Sat. then a marathon install on Sunday. It's not a task I want to do again!!!. Two herniated discs make it a major pain in the butt, literaly!

Would have been nice to put a set of rebuilt heads on, but time restrictions kept that from happening.

The good news is that I found that my rings are still in godd shape (335,000miles and still going). I could even still see the cross hatches in the cylinder walls. Have seen engines with less mileage ware the cross hatch was worn off. Now I don't have a light foot so to me that is pretty impresive.

No water leaked passed the rings into the oil pan. All of the water sprayed up past the valve seals into the valve covers and passed the head gasket into the lifter valley. Real nice goey mess.

Thanks again for the offer!!!
