a few issues with my carbed 2.8

ill list off the issues if anybody can shed ANY light on to any of my questions thanks in advance, im trying to condense all my questions into one post

1) Ive noticed lately that my Check Engine light has been coming on, but when i check for codes (useing not only the paper clip method, but with a scanner as well) Theres no codes to be found????? any ideas?

2) ONLY when im acclerating (3/4ths to full open) i hear a fast Tick tick tick, could i be hearing a Lifter tick? this is the only time i hear the ticking, and i have my windows down all the time.

thanks again for any help guys, im trying to get this 2.8 to see 100,000 miles (the way the car is right now im thinking that the previous owner didnt take too good of care of this car )

Engine: less then a geo

if the tick is only at high rpms it could be lifters.

are you sure you have the timing exact?

and your good pal, electrical tape should take care of that pesky check engine light.

Ill have to check the timing again, Last time i checked the timeing was + or - 2 or three degrees of the timing seting on the Emmissions label,

Anything else that ticking could be? maybe an intake leak or something? (crossing my fingers that it isnt a lifter tick)

Mechanical fuel pump?

I had this strange ticking, that I could only hear on one freeway curve, where they have the "K" rails and only when my window was down. It turned out to be the fuel pump. Damndest thing.

Do you have an automotive stethescope? Sears and other places have them. That should tell you whether it is the pump or not. Good luck.
