Well my car has been idling rough ever seen since I got it.The tach is really jumpy between 750-1k when idling. What causes the tach to be jumpy?Vacuum leaks?PCV valve?Bad IAT?No SES light btw

Re: Rough Idle

start by cleaning your intake especially around where your throttle plate is, cuz a little carbon buildup right there will constrict airflow enough to make your car idle rough, or at a lower rpm than it should. also make sure to clean the idle air control ports on either side of your throttle plate too. thats a good place to start anyway, if that doesnt fix the problem a tune up (cap rotor wires and plugs) is the next step. i always try to start with the simple and least expensive fixes first. good luck.

Re: Rough Idle

Take off the Air cleaner hoses going to the throttle body, clean EVERY Thing that has carbon on it. Mine was especially bad, since my PCV valve was stuck open all the time. Make sure to clean the butterfly. Also, change your cap, rotor, plugs, and wires.

Re: Rough Idle

Well I was checking the car earlier today and noticed that where my pcv valve is at it's leaking oil. Also checked the IAT sensor when I was cleaning my air cleaner that there was a little metal thing that looks like it came off the sensor. How much would an IAT sensor cost?

Re: Rough Idle

Do you mean IAC? Often times the source of an erratic idle is the IAC. Last time I had to replace mine it cost ~$40.

Re: Rough Idle

I doubt the IAT would cause a rough idle.

But I could always be wrong.

Could be just a small loose vaccuum hose.
