Test for the Charcoal Canister Purge Valve?

My 3.1 has been idling high on start up and wanting to die when put in gear until it is warmed up... found a comment on line that this might be because the purge valve was not working and it making the computer richen things up too much. Anyone have experience with this and no of a test or way to check the valve and solenoid?

Re: Test for the Charcoal Canister Purge Valve?

I doubt its the EVAP can. The high idle on startup is fairly normal, especially if its cold out. If its almost dying, I would try cleaning out the TB a bit before anything else, carbon deposits can build up around the TB blade and IAC, making the engine stallout, esp. when load is applied, my lumina had issues with that, I would also check vacuum leaks, I say that all the time to issues on here, cause most of the time they are old and rotting away, and they can cause a host of problems, lol. Mine were so bad on my car that some of them literally crumbled in your hand.

Whatever it was is a mute point now- last night it stalled on the way home, caught fire and about burnt to the ground. I will post pictures when I have the heart to take some...

I can tell you when it goes bad, it will fry a section of the ECM and not throw any codes.
