92 RS new to me

After 1 1/2 yrs. without a thirdgen I'm back! I picked up a used and abused v6/auto fairly cheap. No forward gears and gauges don't work. But the motor did start up and run ok. Needs a tuneup but no oil smoke. Let the fun begin! I sold myself on the need for a thirdgen for fuel mileage. My suburban costs too much to feed...err fuel up.

Purple Haze. I bought a v6 RS, 5 speed, brand new back in 92 with this color. Back then I also had the heritage appearance package. Which included silver stripes.

This one will be my commuter car. If I can get it on the road. If I were lucky it would be a fuse for the gauges and the governor gear for the trans. But I'm usually not lucky when it comes to cars.

Yes to the purple haze. I almost purchased my '92 in that color.

Unfortunately for the auto, with a bad governor gear it would still have 1st and reverse.

The cigar lighter in my car will pop one of the fuses. Can't recall rightly which one. The lighter portion now resides in the console. As when plugged in the body shorts out to the socket and pops the fuse for it.

Looks like it has promise and a prime candidate for a Lsx swap... Debated painting mine purple metallic before choosing orange

I thought of that, there is a 2000 wrecked vette w/67k miles that the LS1 is for sale on c-list here for $2200.
But the body on this isn't deserving of such a swap. Rear fenderwell lip on both sides is bubbling with rust.
Talked myself into this one for gas savings versus the 454 suburban as a commuter. I won't say I got a great deal on this. Not until the final dollar amount comes in to get it on the road. Initial investment stands at $575.

Re: 92 RS new to me

I got it home on the uhaul trailer this evening. I had to back it onto the trailer.

Too bad I gotta get up at 5 am. I'd like to "tinker" with the new ride.

Solved the gauge issue; 10 amp fuse was pulled and mysteriously sitting in the center console. Other than an erratic tach, they work.

No gauge lighting, parking lamps or dome light though. I disconnected the battery for the evening. Cheap batteries aren't so cheap anymore.

Re: 92 RS new to me

is that hood holding its self up all on its own?? Wouldn't expect that seeing it's (no offense) overall condition... I got a 2.8L v-6 complete with 51,000 original miles with perfectly fine 700r4 still attached for 500 bucks if your interested. Harness, ecm, all serp. system and everything...Has new alternator, MAF sensor, plugs, wires, cap, rotor.

No offense taken. Yup the hood struts work fine. Hatch struts are dead.
So far this Camaro is still in the cheap category. If shipping didn't cost so much I'd probably be interested in your drivetrain. But I'll make do on this one. Thanks.

Re: 92 RS new to me

Thanks to this site I was steered in the right direction on my lighting woes. The headlight switch was the culprit on the lighting. All electrical functions ok.

Now to find a V6 auto transmission.
