Federal SS595 performance tires
Is anyone running this tire and what’s your feedback?
Some Online reviews say great and some reviews say scary things about the tire. I’m trying to figure out if maybe there was a bad bad batch or if it’s actually a problem with the tire quality itself.
At $375 USD they are $145 less than the NT555 G2 on sale at discount right now in size 275 40 17.

I don’t use my car at all maybe 500 miles a year. I hear you on safety which is my only concern for looking for clarity. Considering so many more people rave about the federals as well and I wouldn’t get much use from any tire really, I didn’t want to throw extra money at tires unless it was needed considering my usage.

I have Federals on my iroc now, when I put the chrome rims on. Not sure of which type, but I can say they ride very nice, gripped good (on the old 305), tread pattern looks sharp, and have not had any problems out them. These came with my rims as a package deal and to me they were worth it.

after doing some more research last night turns out the nitto have a tendency to flat spot (concern since my car sits 99% of the time), they don’t come back into round quickly and on paper, even though better than invo, the nt555 G2 owners said not true. Invo is far better. They have complained about traction and noise. At the price point I felt it should have been reviewed better and there was no comparison tests to be found on line to verify user reviews. Which lead me to pull the dark horse card on the General GMax rs and start looking more into it.
so I’ve narrowed it to 3 options and have a feeling I’ll end up with the Generals which are made by continental and remind me of the old DW’s conti used to sell. Very similar in a lot of ways I’m not surprised if it is actually the true successor to the dw’s and not the sport contacts which were all new compounds etc...
for price the federals seem perfect but the quality I’m not convinced of. Not from my research anyway. I am concerned about potential safety issues, braking and accident avoidance response and comfort which all scored low on the federals. They are really bad at everything except dry grip and price. I see why drifters love this tire. It’s perfect for their needs. Would have been for mine if it didn’t score dead last on dry braking, response and handling and noise.
for performance, ride and quality it’s the Firestone firehawks indy 500 all day long. It’s been my top pick the whole while but I’m not driving much and the extra money is wasted since the car is basically a show and shine with a couple Sunday drives tossed in for fun. The tires would never get pushed anywhere near it’s limits nor would I ever put any sort of substantial milage on them to suggest that it’s worth the extra money for my usage style. But I really want them. Lol
in the middle is the GMax rs which has replaced the cooper rs3s on my list, which was a good tire also but now being retired in favour of what I’m sure will eventually be an rs4s tire or g3 rs3s. It’s older tire tech now so enter the g max which seems to be on par with the fire hawk with a little less dry performance (no problem for me) and better wet performance (again no problem for me car stays dry) but slightly softer ride (which I’m good with due to stiffer than oem rate springs) for about $65-$75 more than the federals, $40-50 less than nitto nt555g2 and about $140-$150 less than the Firestone Indy.
My top 5 picks for best uhp summer tire atm are:
continental sport contacts
Firestone Indy 500
general GMax rs
Nitto Nt555 g2
Falken fK 510
yes the Michelin pilot series is the benchmark above them all and Goodyear has a couple options too but they’re double the costs of any of these and imo overkill for a street car that sees no track use.

Re: Federal SS595 performance tires
I've been eyeing the Federal's as well for when I get new wheels. I will more than likely buy them as my car is a fair weather driver only. I used to run Sumitomo's on my 4th gen Camaro and they always treated me well even though they got some iffy reviews.
If I was going to be racing the car around a track then I'd certainly select another tire.

I can get 4 Federal's for $336 shipped. The General's are over $550 no matter where I look. Also, I've seen good and bad reviews on both tires. We will see how they work out.

Re: Federal SS595 performance tires
i forgot to mention discount tires sometimes has $80 instant rebate offers, they have one now but not on the generals atm. But that would bring them to $484 a set from $564 when available.
