Holley StealthRam TPI intake
Just saw this on Holley's site anybody have real world info on this? looks nice they. Wonder how much power increase. Will it work with Vortec and E-Tec heads? finally more intake products for TPI

Hmm, looks pretty cool. Appears to be pretty similar to the LT1/Miniram style intake. Any idea on the price? Would be really sweet if they make a version that'll fit on Vortecs/Fastburns. Would be tempting to convert to that if they don't cost a fortune...

Hot Damn. That's downright affordable compared to the other options. I did some searches but came up pretty empty, are there vortec head applications available/planned or was that just some wishful thinking? Probably won't fit under the stock hood anyway I guess...

They don't fit Vortec's, but modification is always an option. They are not emissions legal as they have no EGR provision.

To get your money's worth from the Stealth Ram, you need to add better parts to optimize flow in the rpms it wants to work in. Heads, cam, exhaust, logic(custom prom or Commander 950), bigger injectors, TB, etc.,.... Plan on another $2K above the cost of the manifold and plenum.

hmm, well Im working on a set of L98 heads as we speak. I'm only on the first port....already bumped it to 226 cfm just by working on the short side radius!! Didnt even hog it out yet OR polish the port....I plan on doing some bowl work too. So, along with the cam I have picked out (Crane Compucam 214/220) would you agree that I will see good gains from that manifold?

There isn't a lot of info on the intake because it only came out like a month ago. I think a couple of guys have them, but as of now, no one (on this board at least) has even installed it. Not even Holley knows if it will fit under the stock hood. I haven't heard of any vortec/fastburn/e-tec head applications, and usally modding an intake to fit those isn't worth the money.

That's darned good flow for a cast-iron L98 head! The only numbers I have ever seen on a stock pair were around 190 cfm. I did my own a few years back(p+p first 2" of the runners, bowls and a 3-angle, left the short-sides alone) but never measured after. After looking at the out-of-the-box flows, better chamber and relocated water jacket on Iron Eagles, I switched to a 180cc set of those heads(as yet unmolested).
The thing to keep in mind about the StealthRam is that it is basically a tunnel-ram(albeit a short one). I would choose components accordingly. You don't necessarily have to plan on a 7500 rpm monster, but it'll prolly work best if you aim for a torque peak around 4000-4500 and a hp peak at 6000 or above. Yes, you'll prolly give-up a little low-end grunt, but if you don't go overboard on the cam and heads there should still be enough to make daily driving fun(if not an all-out riot). The cam sounds a little small(I'd shoot for about 224° on the intake and 110-112 LDA's). Plan on learning to burn your own chip or be prepared to have someone do it for you.
..and talk to the guys(like Traxxion) who have MiniRams for specific advice about component selection. I'm still hung-up in a TPI state of mind, so I think you might do well to gleen some info from someone who has experience a little closer to what you're aiming for.

Warbird is right. Counting the number of mounting-bolt holes on the manifold shows it is for pre-'87 heads. You could ask Holley if they have a newer-style manifold base planned. Otherwise you might want to think about going to an aftermarket head.

Thank for the link Brad. Verrrrry Interrresssting! For the minimal mods the poster has, 30 hp is an outstanding gain for just swapping the intake manifold. My calc's say he's making about 300 at the crank. Can't wait to see what it'll do with a decent cam and some headers. Guess I called this one wrong, but pleasantly surprised nonetheless.
If I wasn't saving my ducats to go back to school in fall(after a 23 year hiatus), I'd know where I'd be spending my next hp dollars.
If other people put up similiar gains, Holley won't be able to pump 'em out fast enough. Hope they hold the line on the price tho. Could be just the thing to convince TPIS, Accel, SD, etc., to bring their prices back to earth.

If his info is correct, and there's no reason to believe it isn't, then there's probably a lot he's left on the table. Chip tuning and playing with the fp would be the cheap places to start. Those two areas alone, could explain the drop in low torque.
Still, when you think about it, this engine is almost stock. I mean a catback and the StealthRam, and he's netting about 300 hp at the crank! Really gets my mind goin', when I think about what this could do on my car.
I'm actually starting to calculate how to fit this into the budget before school starts.

Id like to know where everybodies getting their pricing and power results. The guy I order parts from has phone Holley, and they told him that the stealth ram isnt in production yet and couldnt give him a price or a date of production. I would really like one for my 383, and would like to know where i might be able to order one.

I was thinking of the stealth ram but two things killed the idea: I live in california so its no-go for emissions, and the stealth ram intake sits about an inch or so higher than the tpi intake which means it won't clear the stock hood for a firebird, and not even a corvette i think....

i just read the may 2002 edition of carcraft mag intitled "fuel injection for any car" it also had the last road test for the f-body, anyway it had a little insight on the holley stealthram, and it claims it can flow enough for, are you ready, 1600hp, if you don't belive me pick up the magazine and look for yourself!!

The more I read about this thing the happier I am that I haven't wasted money on something else yet. I have two questions about this intake.
1) Does the Holley AFPR for the TPI work with the Stealth Ram fuel rail kit?
2) How difficult would it be to modify the Stealth Ram for EGR?

The reason for the drop in low end torque has to do with the design of the Tuned Port Injection intake. The long runners are tuned for a certain RPM (around 3000 RPMs) and the length of the runners choke the airflow above 4500 or so. Since horsepower is based on torque vs RPM, that also limits the horsepower. With a short runner intake like the Holley Stealth Ram, you lose the torque advantage, but you gain airflow in the upper RPMs. That gives you less torque but more horsepower. More horsepower is a good thing, provided its in an RPM you can reach. Riceburners like to brag they have over 200 HP, but its all over 5000 rpms. Under 5000 they only have 100 or so...
Edit: Regarding adding EGR to it, I think thats almost impossible. You need to machine in the passages for the exhaust gasses to enter the intake tract, as well as add in an EGR valve. I'm just continuing to email them once every couple of weeks asking them to create a Stealth Ram with EGR so we emissions-tested people can use it too.

I don't have emission testing, but its nice to be able to say everything I've done to my car is 50 state legal. I would like to see one with EGR made also.
What about the AFPR though? I know they offer a fuel rail kit with one, but I thought I read somewhere that the regulater will be like the one for Buick. I just bought a Holley regulater for my TPI not too long ago, and I don't want to have to junk it already. Its bad enough I won't be able to use my strut brace.

A little update for you guys
The Camaro that was mentioned on ChevyTalk added a generic Hypertech chip and went 13.96 a few days ago.
This was on true street tires, and with a 2.73 gear. The only mods were the StealthRam and TB, and the chip.![Smilie](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The 355 in my 87 Firebird is carb'ed, I'd switch if it weren't for the computer cost.
Anyway, I just thought you guys would like to know!

Stealth ram..the missing piece to the puzzle...
so Ill need some injectors and maybe an upgraded maf.
already have cam, heads, exaust and forged internals...
so power gain for me should be quite good.

Well Ive got a STEALTH RAM installed in my vette and the only problem is that its about 3/4" to tall to close the hood on my 1985 vette, but DOUG FLYNN over at HOLLEY has installed on on a pure stock 1992 camaro and picked up 62hp over the stock TPI intake,(yes it fits camaros with the standard flat hood, but it needs minor mods on the stock hood (two small dents that are on the inside brace and dont show from outside) now to be fair it does lose some low rpm torque but from about 4400rpm and above it allows enough more air flow even with stock exhausts and heads to make that extra hp, on my vette (a full roller 383 11:1 compression,ported trickflow heads ETC.) theres no contest, Ive picked up 1000rpm plus in the torque range and at least 75hp at 5500rpm- 6500rpm] heres my vette

why do you have to get a new throttle body...i could of sworn that in another post someone said you could use an lt1 TB or TPI TB...hmmm...just search the stealth ram in theTPI forum and youll find all the answers.

What about under a firebird hood?
Im assuming if it wont sit under the stock Corvette hood it wont' fit under my 91 Formula hood either. Can anyone verify that?

You guys should check out the August issue of Chevy High Performance. They built a 406 with Dart pro-1 cnc ported heads, comp mechanical roller with 242* int, 242* exhaust and 0.571" of lift on both sides. They topped it with the holley stealth ram and it made 501 hp at 5,900 rpm and 492 lb/ft of torque! Now that's an engine, it has the low end torque to move are beasts, and the top end power to keep it going! I'm sold on this intake!
