Hypertech chip, what do you think about it?

When I got my LG4 camaro it had a hypertech chip in it. Well, the car is slow anyway, but since I've never been in an LG4 before w/o the chip I was wondering if any of you guys knew how much of a difference it really makes.

Virtually useless. They do very little. A few degrees of spark advance in the lower-mid range of the rpm, possibly lower the #1 fan on/off temp and sometimes a few mph increase in the locking speed of the TC.

Minimal changes with no power increase whatsoever.

I disagree. My 87 IROCZ has a Hyperchip, my 92 Z28 doesn't. Driving the 87 is a lot more fun as the engine and transmission characteristics are better. I think the chip is too expensive, but it does improve the car.

I do not have a chip but have heard the effects depend on the application. I've heard they help the V6 and smaller engines better then say a 350. Don't know, just what I heard.

"engine and transmission characteristics"

Ha ha! The chip doesn't control anything in the transmission. The transmission is not electronically controlled. The only thing I've seen that some aftermarket chips do is raise the TCC lockup speed by a couple MPH to give you the illusion your car is faster. As far as the engine goes... you can do the same thing by advancing your base timing by a couple degrees, because that's all the chip does.

The more mods you have the more you get from a custom chip...not a hypertech or jet. They don't utilize everything you have done...only a custom chip done to your exact specs will do that.

It is not possible to burn a chip for the carb cars. Nobody I know has the info. If someone took the time to share this info, the carb guys could burn their own chips....

Why does a carb car need a chip? What does the computer do on a carb car? Barely anything...

I have many runs with and without my Hypertech chip and over all I have found NO loss or gains in ET whatsover. Only gain I can see is it keeps the engine temps down instead of flirting with overheating in the summer..
