Anyone use Accels DFI management yet? What do you think. I here it's an 80 RWHP gain on that alone after fine tuning.

Well it depends...you have to know how to use it and it isn't easy to learn. Yes, it will give you some extra horsies but it will depend on your combo. I would have rather gotten a speed pro but they are pricey. So i hunted around and found a DFI with Calmap software for $700. They are around and if you look hard enough you can get one for a steal. in the future i'll be going speed pro most likely...but for now this is a good learning tool.

Like Procharged said, it's a wonderful thing to be able to fine tune it, but you pretty much have to be an expert to do it. I've had mine a couple of years now and I learn something new every time I play with it. Had I to do it again, I'd probably program my own chips. I like a challenge

I would have to say that unless you are going to make megapower, I would look at just learning how to re-burn your own eprom.

A lot of information has been recently discovered and with BIN editors like TunerCat, it makes it a snap to change things.

And, if you want the ULTIMATE in flexibility, learn the Assembly Language and rewrite the actual code. I have just gotten into the Assembly Language and this allows me to do ANYTHING I want to. It's just a "process control" computer with programming.

You can get significant gains by tuning through the DFI but hardly enough to quantify an 80hp gain with just the DFI itself. In conjunction with other modifications, yes. The DFI has always been proven and you can find them for very good deals these days, what with everyone selling their 6.0 boxes for the new 7.0 or the Speed-Pro. I purchased 2 6.0 boxes for only $200 each not too long ago. They aren’t as high tech as the 7.0 DFI or the Speed-Pro, but they are definitely cheaper and do the job.
Other comparable alternatives to the 6.0 boxes, if you don’t want to spend the money for the 7.0 DFI or Speed-Pro would be the Haltech E6GM or the Holley 950 Commander and are direct replacements for the GM ECU. The learning curve to tune is comparable to the DFI 6.0.

I work for an Accel/EMIC. We have been using DFI's on hundreds of different applications since 1990. On a STOCK L98 car, you would see decent horsepower gains because you are losing the mass-airflow sensor restriction in your airpath, and you are able to fine-tune your fuel and timing. If you are looking for only 80hp, spend your money elsewhere, however.

The DFI has worked well for me. I have netted some decent gains at the dragstrip by being able to taylor the fuel and spark to the weather conditions. I also found it to be invaluable this year when my emissions test cam up. I first went thru emissions with the street/strip program in it. Of course the car failed. I the drove around and adjusted the air fuel ratio by using the bar graph in the fuel map. After about 40 minutes of cruising around,I brought the car back to test and it passed with flying colors.
