Opening a can of worms... B&M shift kit, good, bad?

I'm looking at a stage 1 or stage 2 kit. Now I've heard that they kill trannies and I've heard that that's just crazy talk. However, even the stage 2 kit is half the cost of a trans-go kit so, what do you all think?

If your talking about the shift improver kit, i got one for my th350 and love it! Anything that "sharpens" the shift will increase the clutch life, and in some ways help the tranny cuz you're decreasing slip (less heat, less wear).
On the other hand, when you snap 2nd and break the tires loose, you're putting a pretty good shock through the tranny and driveline. So far so good here, and that's on a tranny with over 200,000 and no rebuild.

Yeah, but a TH350 can take a lot more punishment than a TH700R4, and if it does break, you can rebuild it while taking a crap.

The Trans-Go kit does everything the right way, plus it comes with a video so there's no mistakes and you can see what you're getting into before you ever crack open the pan.

I guess I'm not saying the B&M is bad, I'm just saying there's better.

I suggest you stay away from B&M. My experience was unpleasant. TransGo seems to be a higher quality, more professional, do-it-right kind of organization. They seem to actually know how a transmission works and the right way to fix/improve it. They're worth the difference, IMO.

i work at a tranny shop (i am a cleanup technician hehe.) and i talked to my boss about it and he said do not do the B&M shift kit because he says it will definitly decrease the tranny's life but a transgo one isn't that bad on the tranny he suggested the transgo kit.

Most people on the board seems to say transgo is the best, and it probalby is. But I have the supirior HP kit and am very pleased with it. Look at http://www.superior-transmission.com...correction.htm

Hi, I put a B&M shift improver kit in my car, and I did blow the trans, however, there didn't appear to be a link between the two. I put in a new rebuilt trans with better cluthes and stuff, and left the valve body with the B&M alone. I have had no real problems since. The tranny does shift real hard into second which is especially noticable at slower speeds it jerks your head back when it shifts and when your on it, it will break the rear tires way lose, i've even managed to chirp third a few times on cold days. But all in all, I can't say too much about the durability factor, but the kit will definelty improve your et's and could be considerable depending how soft your trans is now. Combine this with a rachet shifter and it's a whole lot a fun. I'm just curious as to why so many of you don't like B&M though, I mean they've been in the business a long time and seem to be one of if not the biggest name in transmissions for racing. Just curious not saying anyone is right or wrong. Thanks and good luck.
