Carb/cam-lifters/intake package?

I was looking through my jegs cataloge and saw an edelbrock pkge. Its only like 400 for the stuff. Has anyone delt with this type of pkge? What kind of carb comes with and waht about the cam. This will be going on my 84 L69 motor in my Trans Am.

It is really hard to say what they have packaged. Summit used to sell a package that included a carb and intake. The intake was usually their cheapest one and the carb was the same. Then you could upgrade one or the other if you wanted. It usually worked out where you got a set of intake gaskets for free. Sounds like Jegs just added a cam to their package. Your best bet would be to call and ask what they are including.

Don’t confuse this with some packages by Holley and Edelbrock. These companies also sell packaged components that are matched to work with each other. They normally include heads, cam, intake and carb.

EDIT: I just looked up a Jegs book and I think I see what you are looking at. They have a carb, intake, lifter and cam package by Edelbrock. This is available with the Performer, Performer RPM or the Torker package. If your car is basically stock I would stay with the Performer package. The RPM and Torker cam is too much for an otherwise stock motor.

I am not sure what parts are included but this might help. http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/chevy_1e.html

OK i looked it up more. the cam specs are: 278*/288* adv duration, 204*/214* @.050, gross lift of .280/.295, and lobe sep of 112*. Has a the performer intake, and performer carb with electric choke and i think 600cfm. With this setup on my stock engine with acatback and no cat, will i notice a change in performance? How difficult is this to do? The carb includes vacuum ports, what will be connected to the new carb?

That looks like the Edelbrock Performer kit. I wouldn't bother with that cam in an L69 it isn't a lot different to the one in there already. If you want to do some mods buy the parts seperately. Get a Comp cams 256 or 262 xtreme enery grind, a good manifold (Performer, Stealth, Performer RPM etc) and a carb to match. You will probable need a vacuum advance distributer as well.

What are the stock cam specs for the L69 so i can compare? I think you can choose between a couple of diff size cams. I mainly picked that one to start b/c it all came together as a set and was designed to work together.

I believe the stocker is 202/206 @.050 and lift of .403/.415

I have a 204/214 cam w/ .420/.442 lift in my 86 IROC (TPI though), and it is a decent cam for a 305. But I would go a little bigger since the L69 cam isn't a total POS like some of the other 305s got stuck with. I'd look for something in the 212/222 range or so if it were me...

The Performer or ideally the Performer RPM (have to run a drop base aircleaner w/ the RPM) would both be a great manifold for your engine... I can't comment on the Edelbrock carbs.

I run the Edelbrock RPM kit (-heads) on a 350. The above posts are correct, ditch the cam. It sux. I switched to the XE262 and actually picked up HP. The RPM cam has too much duration to be useful.

Well the heads are a major part of the package. I have the whole kit and let me tell you it works.
