headers!

ive decided its time to get headers. but people are tellin me that they are the bigest pain in the @$$ to put on. would i be better off getting it professionally done or should i attempt it myself. oh yea and how much would it be to get them installed? just curious. and how much of a pain are they to put on?

Took my brother and I 6hrs in a driveway. Hardest part is takin stuff out to clear room. My AC was already out though. Pull the car onto ramps, will make it easier.

Mine went in pretty easily. I laid them in place while I had the heads off, and then was surprised to find I could slip them in and out with the heads in place! Had to fabricate a dip stick tube bracket , fuss a little with an air tube connection, and modify a plug socket to get two of the plugs in. None of it was as bad as I thought it would be. I don't have air conditioning, which I suppose could make it a little trickier.

My headers took me about 20 min to fit in. Granted I just replaced the engine it made it a little easier......still it isn't hard at all, the hardest part is gettin all that stuff outta the way.

me and my friend spent 3 6-hour days installing my headers which included permanetly removing my AC, installing the headers, and removing the entire stock exhaust. This board is so helpful, a year before installing my headers (2 years ago) i couldnt even change oil, now i plan on doing a 305-350 TBI swap this summer. Thirdgen.org has everything youll want to know, just do alot of reading about header installation on the exhaust board, if you feel confident after that then do it yourself, if not, have a pro do it.

my Edelbrocks both went in from the top with almost no trouble, with all my AC removed except for the AC heater box, all i had to do was telescope down the steering shaft and remove the passenger side valve cover.

I installed dynomax headers last weekend, took about 5 hours total, be and a buddy. we had to unbolt the motor mounts, then they both went in from the top. I could probably do it again in about 3 hours.

you'll find that most shorty headers are gonna be about the same as far as performance goes, coatings and price are a different story though.

I remember headers being a nightmare to install when I first did them on my 89 Gta , but most of the trouble was in getting the exhaust manifolds off. When i put my new motor back in, I did the headers after, and they seemed 10 times easier. Just be patient and when all seems lost, take a nap or get something to eat them come back to it.

When i get pissed, i get pissed! I just need to cool off and come back to things from time to time. It's just more healthy for me instead of breaking something from being frustrated and tired! I just tried mine and the drivers side was not that bad. I just did my motor swap so most of the stuff is still out of the way! I have the Edelbrock TES headers. good luck

youll be able to get them in with A/C, it will just be alittle harder sincee you have all that stuff in the way.

I still have ac, you'll probably have to unbolt the motor mounts to get it in.

I'd bet they'd charge around $200 or so.

Those little silver tubes are your AIR tubes and the new headers will have a replacement system with all the brackets and hardware. If you take your time installing the headers and have a little help I think they are really not gonna be as much of a bitch as you are thinking right now.
