Automatic shifter

I was just checking out the automatic shifters on b&m's site and im a little confused....i just want to make sure here..An automatic shifter is for an automatic transmission...it gives you manual control over your auto tranny right? What else is needed to install an auto shifter? Do you need to also get the manual pak, or just the shifter? Does a shift improver do anything when you use an automatic shifter or no? Also does anyone know approximate prices on those guys (website doesnt say) thanks

the shifter will replace your stock shifter, you may alos need new shifter cable. the shift improver is a shift kit, goes inside the trans.

I would recommend if you get a shift improver to get the TranGo shift kit, it isn't a B&M product, and it goes for about $129.00. It is a very good kit and it comes with a video if you want to do it yourself, as I did.
As for the shifter I think the one you may be questioning about is the ratchet shift for the console. Do a search on "ratchet shifter" or "B&M" and you'll get alot of info.
Good Luck!

Josh, the shifter alone won't help performance. It does keep you from finding reverse by accident; and if you like to "row your own", you'll never miss a gear again. You don't need to modify the transmission internally (as in, adding a shift kit) to use a shifter.

B&M's console Megashifter comes with everything you need to install it, except for tools (no "speciality" tools, just basic ones) and a car.

Cool, thanks guys. I was definitely looking at the transgo shift kit along with the b&m console ratchet shifter. Does anyone know if with the transgo **** kit it gives you manual control such as downshifting no matter what the speed is? Also with the transgo and shifter you should still have full automatic capabilities when put in drive correct?

Josh, The TransGo shift kit has basically 2 different options.
One is full manual control. This means YOU must shift ALL the time. From first to drive or OD and then back down to first at stops.
The second is automatic. Now there are other parts they say you can get from the dealer (GM) to add to the performance. In any case yes with this option you can still downshift in any speed but I don't think going from 60mph in drive to 1st would be wise.

Good Luck!

I love that little shifter. That thing sees more action when I drive than a fratgirl.

My only complaint is that the aluminum T-handle get HOT in the summer. I mean to the point where you get a mirrored B&M logo scarred into your palm. I had to change that baby out for the summertime with the cheapo black plastic one B&M sells.

Eventually I think I'll get it leather wrapped to match the wheel and parking brake handle.

If you do get the B&M shifter..Checkout the red cable real good if it has any cracks in it. Send it back and get a replacement.

Good luck
