Spark Plug Sockets for Headers - Update
I saw these reviewed in the Apr '06 Hot Rod magazine.
Anyone else use them? Looks like a good tool, so I just ordered a set by phone. I'll post again when I get them, unless other folks already have a set they can comment on.

The company makes you phone or email them for the price. So, what did they cost you?
I agree that you could fairly easily modify a stock spark plug socket into a "header socket".

I am not sure what you paid for that socket but you can get something similar off of ebay for $9. To me it is cheaper to buy on than it is to modifiy one. If you choose to make your own you will need more than a grinder. Not all headers are the same and these special sockets need to be pretty short.

Save 25$ and go to Sears and buy a 5/8 plug socket lol
Cut it down and pull the rubber insert out or cut it down as well.
Than cut it down the side akin to what an 02 sensor socket looks like and done :-)
File all the edges or else its sharp :-)
Although like was mentioned above, I have seen some pretty sorry headers where the clearance is almost nil even with shorties installed(why do they even make them like that?), so in extreme case u might not be able to get a shortened regular socket cut down enough
later

About 1/4 inch off the top worked for me. Get one like the above photo wirh a hex fitting on the end, so you can use a gear wrench to turn it!
those look nice because the metal is thick and strong it looks like.
i used a regular spark plug socket cutted/ grinded it down and it works prety well. other than when u go to snug them up good u can see the flex in the socket and someitmes slips off the nut on the plug because it flexs apart to much.
usually i just reset it on and try again. i need to start using anti sieze on the plugs. i know i snug them down ok but it seems they tend to sligthy get lose if nothing is used on them over a few weeks.

I bought one from my snap on tool rep. I have used it and it's pretty slick. It's the same one SLP sells in JEGS. Yeah you can go buy a socket and grind it down or spend a few bucks and have a nice one.

OK, my set arrived by Fedex on Saturday.
A set of two, one at 1.75 inches and the other 1.25. They are very well made, much better than I could do in the garage, if I had one.
The cut-out on the side is a full single face of the six. The cut-out on the shorter one is 0.5 inches long and 0.75 on the longer one. Obviously allows you to come on to the plug with that much advantage.
I was a little nervous when I made the order, their web site leaves a lot to be desired. When I called them I got an answering machine, but about 2 hours later Scott Rogers called me back, and after talking to him a bit I placed an order with his wife Julie. They are a start-up business, and had not heard of TGO, so I filled him in a bit. Right now I'm very pleased with the product, though a little pricey: $44.95 for the set plus shipping.
I really like the socket Shifty posted above, and if you have the means I have no doubt many of you can make your own. But I don't mind paying for a well made tool, and that is what I got this time. Thanks Scott, and good luck!

wheek spin, those are the same plug sockets i just bought off my mac man for 30 bucks. i love mine to death! the 2210 hooker lt's do not permit easy access to use the box wrench only on most of the plugs, and the rest are really tight. these make the difference between day and night! i would reccomned them to anybody who has headers!

mac had them listed at $42 but the mac man owed me one. these things let me change my spark plugs in less than 10 min, which beats the 30 min it used to take with the cut, ground craftsman we used in the past!
thanks
