Solid roller cams on the street? Good or Bad

I was wondering if some of you guys who were running solid roller cams in vehicles that are driven on the street often would share your thoughts. I was thinking of changing to roller either hydraulic or solid. I've heard that the newer solid rollers have much longer lives on the street. Wondered how some of you liked or disliked yours. Thanks for any replies.

How often do you have to set valve lash?

I was thinking about going solid roller too.

you need to groove your lifter bore, or use lifters with a groove in it, so that oil will run down onto the roller. Otherwise it doesn't get enough oil on the roller at lower RPMs (street driving).
If you do that, you're set.

Re: Solid roller cams on the street? Good or Bad

there is nothing wrong with a roller on the street. the only issue is how radical the cam is. the more valve spring seat pressure there is the faster the valve spring will weaken. Camshafts with lots of duration and lift will need a valve spring with alot of seat pressure. the best thing to do is call the cam company and ask them. i deal with cam motion. they only build custom cams, none of there cams are off the shelf. you call them and tell them what your doing and they will design one for you.

If you get stud girdles then you will not have to keep resetting valve lash. Best 200 bucks I ever spent.

I heard you still have to adjust valves even with stud girdles is that true?
How long has it been since you adjusted your valves?

Re: Solid roller cams on the street? Good or Bad

so if i have a stock hyd. roller i can just get some (grooved) solid roller lifters and they will slide right in?

i plan on doing a cam swap soon and i want to ditch the hydraulic lifters...

Re: Solid roller cams on the street? Good or Bad

the best way to go for a roller is(if u have the budget) shaft rockers,(i use t&d) crower severe duty with HIPPO option, and good valve springs. with this setup i went 3 years shifting at 7500rpm on motor and 7200rpm on spray. i set the lash twice in that period, the only reason i did it the 2nd time was to see if i could find some et. motor was sold TODAY!!!! new combo stronger and faster!!!
